HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
By john, 3/18/12
I am not sure who the other reviewers are referring too when they say it is a friendly place. NO employee at this hotel ever said hello to us, plus they look like dirty and shady high school drops outs. I was afraid to let my kids play outside or leave my door open. The girl at the desk had oily hair, food on her shirt and a very bad attitude. Our reservation was wrong when we checked in and she pulled out this kindergarten project cardboard poster, erased, rewrote, erased again, and said OK now. The parking situation and unloading area is a circus. You cannot leave your car parked and take your bags to the room. You must unload and move the car immediately, leaving your bags and family unattended. The room keys are ancient and took me 5 minutes to unlock the door. The late night clerk made a pass at my wife when she went to get ice. When she told me, I went to confront him. He said "it was a misunderstanding" and then offered me a beer ! I reported the incident to the same oily haired girl the next morning and she said "He is married, and wouldn't do that". I asked to speak to a manager/owner and she said they were not going to be in that day. I said we were going to be leaving, and she shrugged. Yes, the rooms are cheap, and so is everything else. I surely learned the lesson of "you get what you pay for". I will gladly pay twice as much in the future for the hospitality I expect.

I liked it!!
By Andy, 4/20/09
This place is great for my family & I. The prices are low, the rooms are nice enough, & the location is A+!! I have a two year-old & she LOVED the trip & the hotel. The staff was nice enough & the room, while yes a bit dated, was very nice considering the price. I would highly recommend this place to families with young kids. It is not the Ritz-Carlton, but that is NOT what I was looking for.

Been going there for years
By Kris, 4/11/09
Been going there for years just due to the nice location , being so close to the beach. The motel IS a little run down and the night shift desk clerk is very old and very rude. The pool closes at 10 pm and if you stay a minute longer he will chase you out of the pool and the hotel. Very good rates, I guess take the good with the bad?

Wonderful retro motel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/19/06
A great quaint motel. Very 1960's - '70's vintage. Pool is extremely clean and centrally located. Outdoor grill for cooking. 10 paces from the beach & ocean. Have stayed here for many long weekends and always love to come back!

A DUMP is too nice!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/10/06
This place is worse than a dump. We had a room rented and when we got there they had rented it to someone else!! We couldn't believe it because we had been staying there for many, many years. They gave us another room that was very filthy and the refrigerator didn't work! We left emediately and stayed at a different hotel that is much better. We will not be staying at the sands any more.

What a DUMP!!!
By Greg, 6/6/06
I have been staying at the Sands for years. It has been a great motel until last year where we found that it was a DUMP. What a dump it was. The rooms were shabby and I would have been surprized if they cleaned them one a month. What a DUMP!!!

gulf view
By lisa rossbach, 3/7/06
I was so excited to stay here. I was planning on leaving Florida but found a room here and stayed 4 extra days and couldn't have enjoyed myself more. My view of the ocean was amazing and I can't wait to return.

Lack of Customer Service Ends My Stays
By MiaD, 11/20/05
While I have stayed at this establishment many times previously, I will not be returning after a bad experience with the Sands. I was given three different rate quotes for a New Year's stay, beginning with $65.00/night. I was then called back and told that an error had been made and that due to holiday rates, the price would be $75.00/night. I agreed to this since accidents happen and I really looked forward to my stay. Today, two days later, I was called by the office mgr who told me that the rate was actually $85.00/night due to rate increases in December. The office mgr was totally inflexible and rude, and refused to abide by the previous quote of $75.00. I told her that since they had made several mistakes, and they would not honor the rate quoted, I would not be returning. If you wish to stay here, be prepared to pay $20.00 more than you are quoted and a lack of cooperation.
