perfect spot - close walk to the ocean, amazing coffee spot The Lofty Bean, steps away, clean but not fancy, kitchenette, and quite guests. Lovely inn keepers who could not have been nicer and were totally accommadating. Fast 90 min drive out of L.A. My daughter hubby and I are for sure going back next summer!
Carlsbad is a much nicer town to stay in and much more quaint!!!! Encinitas is too crowded and this hotel is not nice at all. Run down needs updating!!! Sad to walk in a hotel and you see a family member sleeping in a bed in the check in area. I did not like the lady at the front desk at all not courteous at all. Did not meet our expectations!!!
My family just spent 2 nights at the Moonlight Beach Motel, and we will come back next year!! The ladies behind the front desk were very nice, and our room was clean and comfortable. The small kitchen area was perfect for snacks and small meals. The walk to the beach or into town for a bite to eat was easy. We never moved our car the whole time we were there. This was one of the best small motels I have ever stayed at, and we will recommend it to our friends.
WE just returned from a week stay at this motel and had a good experience. The view is exceptional (I would recommend a 3rd floor room), our bed was very comfortable, and it was great to hear the waves at night and watch the sunset from our balcony. Don't expect a Holiday Inn type room but it was fine for us. The bathroom could use some updating and a little more elbow grease in some of the shower corners but we will definitely stay there again. The continental breakfast was nothing we would eat but we had a kitchen so ate what we wanted on our balcony looking at the view.
I've stayed in many different hotels, mostly upmarket ones. Moonlight beach is without a doubt, the best budget accommadation I've experienced. Great location, ocean views, spacious apartment and the front desk service was fantastic. i'll definately stay there each time I'm in Encinitas.
the couch in 205 sinks way in, and the room smelled a little like mildew. the shower head just had a mist of water sprays out.BUT i would come back again every time i go to california, the help at the front desk was plesent, we loved how big the rooms were, very comfortable bed and a skip to the beach!!! thank you, that was our 2nd stay in 3 months,WE will come and stay again soon.....
I have been going here with my family for over 10 years. It is perfectly located for walking around Encinitas and is just 2-3 blocks from Moonlight Beach. We have nothing but good things to say about this place.
We have been staying here for 8 of the past 10 summers and it is still the best place around. We start each morning with a walk on the beach, then stop at one of the many sidewalk cafes for a light breakfast. My wife spends most of her days shopping at the many small shops within walking distance and relaxing on the beach. I take the nearby train to the Del Mar racetrack. The day ends with a nice dinner, cooked on the outdoor grills provided by the hotel, or a takeout from the best Pizza Place in the USA, and enjoyed from our ocean view patio. Pure Heaven !!!!!
I read the reviews and looked at the pics before staying here. I agree it's agreat place and the cleanest except for Room 102. It's a handicap-equipped romm and was not as clean as romm #208 (ocean view). There was dirt/food left around the floor perimeter and the towels were not as nice as the other room's. And they don't have bathtub, which I have no problem with.
I was however upset their Internet service did not work, after telling me they had complimentary wireless. I never got it to work properly - after trying for 3 hours with their "tech support".
And the manager is not a very nice person. She told me one room would be $120 then charged me $125.
Otherwise, it's probably the cleanest/best hotel in the Encinitas area. Hope it stays that way.
