Jewel of Nevada City
My husband and I were married in the garden of the Red Castle Inn four years ago. We have since returned to revel in cherished memories each anniversary. The Red Castle Inn is an historic "jewel." You will appreciate her if you enjoy savoring splendored moments that cannot be purchased at a glitzy city hotel. You cannot merely drive by to catch a glimpse of her, as nature has enveloped her in a forested cloak. However, it takes just a few minutes to park and descend the twisted wooden staircase so that you can see the mansion in all her glory.
The mansion and all rooms have been lovingly appointed in period antiques to create an authentic experience for guests. The gardens are enchanting forested tiers that contain many winding paths and flowered alcoves for private retreats from the day. As we come to Nevada City each year, we have noticed many other B&B's have "turned over" which seems to diminish the historic charm some of these other spots may have had in the past. However, that is not the case at the Red Castle. Conley and Mary Louise have been the Red Castle's innkeepers for 20 years now and they care for this beautiful old inn as one would a rare and priceless work of art. In fact, it is.
Breakfast is served daily in the foyer and is a gourmet delight. There are always at least five different dishes including entrees, specialty breads, and fruit, as well as fresh squeezed juice and fresh coffee. We often enjoy our breakfast on our own private veranda, taking in the beautiful sights of the Red Castle gardens. Afternoon tea is served by request and is a lovely way to unwind in the parlor before heading to town for dinner. From the Red Castle, it is just a short walk down the forested path to historic main street in Nevada City. My husband and I enjoy discovering something new each time we are there. We savor the moments we spend in our room as well. Each room is a quiet and magical retreat from the world. No phones; no TV. Only rich woods, soft rugs, antique appointments, and the beautiful strains of classical music occasionally floating up the halls transport us into a different time and place.
After our wedding, honeymoon, and four anniversary trips, the Red Castle Inn is still our cherished retreat. We hope it will be yours as well.
Thank you Conley and Mary Louise for many wonderful memories. We look forward to next year.
