first and last time at camp richardson
By ,
very poor bathroom facilities. this camp has the tiniest, most miserable bathrooms. if you are a large person, forget about trying to get in (or turn around for that matter). no space for hair dryer, toiletry bag, no hooks or nails to hang anything. very poor roads (enormous rocks). our campsite was next to the road, with traffic noise into the wee hours. to crown it all off, there were bear disturbances in 2 of the 3 nites. the 2nd nite, the bear got into the trash bins. the 3rd nite, a bear turned over our bear box, finally managed to open the door, and sat there for at least 2 hrs eating. we left that morning after 3 nites (we paid for 5).

DANGEROUS CAMPGROUND
By ,
We just got back from 3 nights at Camp Richardson in the campground. On the second night we were "visited" by 4 bears within a 4 hour period, rummaging in trash and neighboring coolers right in front of the campers. The bears were easily scared out of our campsite, but the last visitors were a mama bear and two cubs. Each campsite has a food locker and there are bear-resistant dumpsters by the bathrooms, but there are also regular push-lid trash cans by each bathroom door, which helped attract the bears. If anyone had gotten between mama and cubs at the bathrooms by accident it would have been very dangerous. Security agreed that this was a danger, but the trash cans remained the next night. The housekeeping people stated that everyone should just "know" not to put food in those cans. While I agree with others that this is a bare-bones campground with loud, drunken visitors and terrible facilities, I would NOT recommend this campground based on the lax bear precautions and attitude.

Great Camping
By ,
My family has camped here 4 times in about 6 years and we love it. One time on the RV side, the remaining 3 times on the tent side. The only teeny tiny drawback is the little walk to the beach from the campsites, but that's not much. Love how they have a roped off area for swimming only, no boats, so you feel safer with your little ones in the water. The sites are as clean as you can expect a campground to be & the bathrooms are well taken care of. Love it & will be going back again this year.

Wouldn't miss our annual trip with our scout pack!
By ,
We love Camp Rich! Our scout pack has held their annual winter camp there for several years now. We had one problem a few years back, but the folks at the lodge bent over backwards to make things right for us, and we all deeply appreciated their willingness to do so. The cabins are perfect for those looking for privacy and quiet. The lodge is great for socializers as it has a huge common room with an equally huge fire place. There are no phones or TVs in the rooms/cabins (ah, peace!), but there is a TV in the common room. The restaurant on the lake is a bit pricey for families, but they have always welcomed those of us who have dined there. The music there is live, and we've never been disappointed with the tunes. There is also a boat house available for parties, etc. For folks expecting a 5 star, air tight, dust free, "light startch on my shirts, please" hotel, this is not for you (the casinos are across the lake). For those who want to experience the Seirra's in a rustic, historic and charming setting off the beaten path, I encourage you to pick up the phone and make your reservation!

Run and don't look back!!!
By ,
What a DUMP!!! We made a decision to take the kids snowboarding this year and decided to try this historic place. It was historic all right. The electrical system is from the 30's and kept blowing out. The kids had to spend the winter night without any heat. And if that wasn't bad enough, the mattress on two of the beds were broken down and beaten. The kids slept slanted downhill all night. Then, when we asked for maid service, they told us we couldn't get any unless we spend a week with them-WHAT? We then asked for clean towels and we would manage with the eight people we had staying there. They then had the audacity to tell us they would charge us a fee of $5 per towel. WHAT A RIP-OFF! Find another place.

A perfect weekend getaway...Camp Richardson
By ,
Love everything about Camp Richardson from the Hotel accomodations to the Beacon Bar & Grill. October is the best time to stay at Camp Rich. The crowds are gone, the lake is like glass & the Rum Runners at the Beacon are a perfect way to top off a great dinner. AAA+++

Ideal Family Reunion spot
By ,
Just returned from a 50+ member family reunion and greatly enjoyed the Camp. Folk who needed to camp got that, others were in various cabins, various sizes - no one was stuck together for the entire time. One whole bunch got the beachside Inn units, where there are TVs and little in-room fridges; I was in the Hotel with all comforts, but no phone or TV [I like to read] but there is WiFi and TV in the hotel lobby. All the amenities, we could cook out as a group, or kids could play at the beach with one adult to supervise. Rent bikes, hike, rent horses, drive the lake roads, Marina, great beachside restaurant - Tahoe has it all. all clean and comfortable, and management was attentive to our needs. I highly recommend it. oh, great ice cream parlor!

Cozy & Quaint in Winter
By ,
I loved this hotel for the ambiance of it. We stayed in the Hotel in the Winter one year, and it looked like it was out of movie. Rustic log cabin lodge with icicles coming down from the rafters. Very breathtaking. Note - they didn't have TVs, if this is something you absolutely have to have. But, it was nice to get away for a change. Very rustic and cute decor inside the rooms. Everything log cabin themed. Unfortunately it was so dry I got rug-burn from the sheets - but I would still go back in a heart-beat, it was so beautiful. Good to know: we heard a lot of complaints about the cabins. People were having a lot of problems with the plumbing and getting problems taken care of by the staff.

Old world Tahoe
By ,
Camp Richardson is just OK, dusty and very primative accomidations but has a great location with a beach and marina. The 2 condos in the back are probably the best bet, the cabins are old and beat, the lodge is just OK.
