Absolutely the best experience of a friendly, small town visit.

We came in from Mobile, AL and Memphis, Tn to see California, or as much as we could in seven days. Hitting San Francisco on Saturday and going to Yosemite on Sunday, we stopped in this small town of Coulterville on the way out and on the way to Lake Tahoe. After a day of driving we decided to stop in Coulterville for a drink. What better place than one that has a sign that says "saloon"? After all we are in the west. We went in and what happened after that was completely unexpected. The saloon was all we thought it could be with friendly service and local banter. We knew then that this was a special place. We walked over to the hotel to see what other surprises were there and we find again, exactly what would be expected in a small western town. A beautiful hotel taken straight out of a western movie. After all the old guest register we saw in the saloon did have the signature of Teddy Roosevelt from a visit he had while in the area visiting John Muir in the Yosemite wilderness trying to sell the president on the idea of a national park. We asked a waitress in the dining room about a room and were directed, where else but, to the bartender at the saloon. We got a room with two bedrooms and private bath for far less than we paid in any other place on our stay (Mckinleyville, Gualala, Santa Rosa, San Francisco) in California. The service was unreal and friendly. When I walked out of the hotel the next morning, I was greeted on the street by the waitress (who was actually one of the owners) and the bartender. Both asked how my night was and directed me to the general store(no kidding) up the street for a great breakfast. Nothing on our trip came remotely close to the few hours we spent in Coulerville at the Hotel Jefferey. Cudos to the entire staff and people on Coulterville. You gave me memories that will last my entire life. Thank you all. Frank Ashley
