A practical choice for those on a budget
On a budget? Want more comfort or privacy than a Hostel? Want to still have quick access to greater Chicagoland and O'Hare Airport? Then this is the place.
Location, as they say, is everything. Though none too close to the Loop (AKA downtown Chicago), the Rosemont Blue Line CTA station is a medium-long walk or a short (though overpriced) cab ride away. There's also parking at the station if you brought your own car. This line takes you to downtown and points in between, including my favourite neighborhoods, Bucktown and Wicker Park, as well as O'Hare. Though it's about a half hour ride into town, the El train ride is an experience unto itself with people and scenery watching that's really not to be missed.
Next door to the CTA station is I-90 which likewise leads to downtown as well as O'Hare airport.
Another point of interest is easy access to Rosemont's theatre and convention center complex, a stone's throw from the CTA station and a modest walk from Motel 6.
Now, all this is done in typical Motel 6 fashion. The rooms are modest but clean and comfortable, adequate in every way if not exactly luxurious. Everything works and the rooms are well-insulated against both noise and Chicago's notoriously unpredictable weather, although the motel's low prices to tend to attract a frat-like crowd for St. Patrick's day and the like.
If there's something lacking in the immediate area, it's food choices. You can order in, or go to a couple nearby greasy spoons; otherwise, plan on snacking or heading into Chicago for eats.
Overall, this is the place that my girlfriend and I stay at every time we visit Chicagoland, because of its very competitive rates and unusually easy access to transportation.
