Don't Go There!
By ,
We just returned and had similar experiences to the recent reviews in July. Front desk was rude and not at all helprful. Promotions for kids was a joke and thanks to the front desk we found out after the fact that tickets had to be purchased through the hotel to get the alleged discounts. The courtyard should be called the dungeon. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the view of the falls from some of the rooms on the higher floors. The area around the Falls is absolutely beautiful and a wonderful place to walk, especially at night. Go to the embasy suites next door, where they have the same view with a better atmosphere and better customer service. The only consolation for our continuous problems was the manager gave us a discount off our final bill. I would have rather paid full price and avoided the problems.

Don't stay here!!
By ,
My husband & I stayed here for 2 nights and were so disappointed. Our room was in a dingy area with no elevator and the door leading in from the parking lot was NOT secured whatsoever. The bed was as hard as a rock, which caused both of our backs to hurt. The service sucked! The clerks didn't want to be bothered by anyone asking questions. We stopped to ask if there was a pharmacy that sold Tums and we got a "no" with an attitude and a shake of the head. The only nice service was from the bellhop who gave us a map and from the nice gentleman who provided the shuttle to & from the Remington Steak House (great food there). Definitely look somewhere else to stay because Niagra Falls is a beautiful place to explore!

couldn't have been better
By ,
I called to book a room to be sure that I would get a fallsview, and the lady there upgraded us. We got a 3 room suite on the 16th floor. The rooms were very clean. Service was always with a smile. Friendly, helpful and the view was magnificient. I told all my kids that this hotel is the only one to go to. You can't get that much closer to the falls. It was my first time in Niagara and a time that I will always remember. Thanks Oakes.

Bike stolen from parking lot
By ,
After my Gary Fisher bike got stolen from their parking lot which was visible from the front desk, they charged $15.00 for parking. They were not willing to do anything for me. The room was old, still has tube t.v. The staff was curt and not willing to do anything.

nothing special about this hotel
By ,
I don't think the prices were substantially lower compared to other hotels which are also overlooking the falls and offer much more than this one. 1) We did not expect such a small (and overall unpleasant, except for the view) room (no refrigerator either). I could not stay in that room for a minute. 2) Not only breakfast was not included, but you do not even have the option of buying/having breakfast or any meal in this hotel. 3) You have to pay extra for internet connection.

Nice location-old hotel
By ,
Our room on the 10 th floor had a magnificant view. Service at the counter was friendly and courteous. But that's it. Like: 1- View, location and convenience to all attractions. 2- Easy to find from the road. 3- Clean room 4- We opted for the pass package which included 4 attractions(maid of the mist, Niagara fury, Walk under the falls, free breakfast and a transportation pass. Good value. Dislike: 1- Not enough parking. A $20.00 parking fee is added to the bill. We had to drive around and find a space if we were lucky to find one in the lighted area. Other wise you park in the darkend area near the dumpsters which didn't seem too inviting. 2- I have to say that the hotel is in dire need of a major re-do. Hallway carpets were well worn, spotted and beginning to show signs of age. 3- The pool was ok but ventilation in the pool area needed to be improved, it was hot and smelled of chlorine. 4- Free breakfast at Applebees or Perkins is a joke. You could not order off the menu. Eggs, bacon, toast and a cup of coffee was all you could settle for. It appeared that if you had a free breakfast pass you were treated a little different than those who paid. 5- There was no coffee maker in the room. For the price you paid you think they would have provided that. 6- Beds were not too comfortable (stiff and shakey) Over all the stay was acceptable because of location and room view of the falls. I wouldn't recommend this hotel until they do a renovation. Cost wise it was competitive but not 1st class. I'd give this hotel a rating of 70% max.

The Oakes not all is claims to be
By ,
Billing itself as a top-rated, world class hotel, the Oakes in Niagara Falls, Canada is anything but. It completely lacked a decent exercise room (I swear the equipment was procured at a garage sale 15 years ago) or any sort of wireless or internet connection (hey, one computer in the lobby for all guests -- beware, it's $5 for 20 minutes!). The television offered 10 meager stations, a couple with horrible reception. The staff was lackadaisical at best, when we could find them. Beds went unmade until after 2PM, the shower broke and was never repaired, keys randomly didn't work upon our arrival back on random days, and there were strange bare spots on our walls where artwork had been removed by either former guests or staff. It felt like we were staying in a half-moved into apartment. I would never stay here again and would never recommend it to anyone else. Especially for the price. What a rip off.

Wonderful, Beautiful!
By ,
We absolutely LOVED staying here this past June. We had a corner jacuzzi room and it was spectacular. The view of the falls was unsurpassed and the room clean and modern. We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Niagara Falls!

OMG! DO NOT STAY HERE
By ,
We booked a short getaway through Amtrak for a 3-night stay at this hotel, what a mistake. It was very disappointing. The hotel is not all it claims to be as stated on their website.. "you will find luxury here". There is no luxury and should be rated a half star. The hotel façade is very deceiving as it appear modern. Actually, this hotel is old and smelly with stained, torn and dirty carpet throughout, no safe deposit boxes and some rooms without door thresholds. Our room was on the second floor overlooking a parking lot (what happen to the "great view" of the Falls). It was small with an old TV -- limited cable, some channels not clear and/or working, no room in the bathroom for personal toiletries and poor quality towels and bedding. The room did not have a mini refrigerator and/or microwave and the mattress was as hard as a rock which caused my husband and I back aches. The pool is very small and the so-called exercise and fitness facility was a joke; which was located around the corner within 10 feet from the pool. There were about 4 or 5 treadmills located in this area and nothing else. The only good thing was the location and the front desk employee, Ashley as she was very friendly, courteous and helpful. Please take my advice and stay at the Comfort Inn Fallsview, Embassy Suites or Marriott Fallsview which provide an up-to-date facility, more amenities, comfort, and tours. Overall, this hotel is disgusting and we will never stay here again and/or recommend it Hopefully, we did not contract any diseases. We will report these findings to Amtrak.

Maybe go back
By ,
The view is the best no question about, location very good central close to all, but this is it. 15 dollars parking for guests(daily no good), we stay on 20 floor premier falls view suite, never see the roubes or any one to clean the room. Sauna room very small and durty, pool very small. No coffe maker on the rooms. Needs improvment.
