NOT A GOOD PLACE TO STAY!!!!!
By heatherk, 02/17/09
My Fiance and I just stayed in this motel over valentines weekend. When we arrived the elderly man at the desk was very friendly. When we got to our room, it was a mess!!! There was coffee left in the coffee maker, toothpaste in the bathroom sink, cobwebs everywhere. And then we went to take a shower and the water wasn't draining down the tub. I had to pull a huge wad of hair out of the drain. It was absolutely nasty. The housekeeper must not have cleaned the tub in months!!! Also, the water temperature went from very hot to very cold (like people were running the water). It was horrible. I had to go to the store to get cleaning products to clean out the tub and sink. I've never stayed in such a dirty place before. Before I went here I read all the reviews and some sounded really good, DO NOT believe them at all. Also their breakfast was a big joke. We didn't even eat it was sooooo bad. This place is definately not even worth $20/ night. Take my word for it!!!!!!

Very Sad Stay!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/23/08
After reading the reviews on this site we opted to stay at Hollow Inn (There really isn’t a lot of places to stay in Northfield VT.) We were very wrong to assume judgment of other’s reviews! I feel sad to assume that others would really think this hotel was a great stay. Apparently people do not get out much. Let me begin my issues: Great confusion with the front desk about credit card usage when we decided to switch from original reservation card to another. Not only did they bill this card but the one we switched with as well. After trying to correcting the issue they did it 3 more times with the same card that I never used! Finally we had to threaten with a Credit card Attorney to get involved, finally things were resolved; moving on: Coffee pot was not cleaned or emptied after the prior guests, rooms smelled of smoke and mildew, Continental Breakfast - Hahaha - we had to keep asking for things to make somewhat of a breakfast; cups, butter, more bread, batter for waffles, more coffee (it was 0700 in the am); the attitudes of the front desk was inappropriate / bothered by our & others requests for items that they ran out of, Soda vending machine did not work and no signs placed to show this, when brought up to the front desk they stated, "Oh yeah they haven't worked in awhile" - I told them the proper thing to do is to put a sign up! I would never recommend this to anyone. Stay at your own risk!

Won't be back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/26/07
We used to be an annual visitor but this year changed everything. We had a reservation for two nights but had to cancel. We called four days in advance (their policy states that you only need to provide 48 hours notice for cancellations) and spoke with the owner. He advised us that we were 'all set' and when we asked for a confirmation number he said that we didn't need one because he already took us out of the computer. Needless to say we were charged for both nights and when we disputed it with our credit card company the hotel refused to credit our charges. When we called and spoke directly with the same owner that took our cancellation he lied about who he was and hung up on us. We are still dipsuting the charges and it has been two months of going round and round with them. We will never be back and we will make sure that none of our friends book there either. This hotel has gone downhill since this new management took over which is such a shame because it was such a nice place when the original people owned it.

Our Favorite Place in Vermont
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/19/07
We love The Hollow and always stay here when visiting our extended family in Vermont. The staff is friendly and accommodating and particularly nice to people traveling with pets, like us. The pool is nice, breakfast is good and the rooms are spacious. While Barre is not much of a tourist destination, it is near Montpelier, the nicest state capital we've been in, and very close to the Stowe ski area. Barre also has some good and reasonably priced restaurants. We've probably stayed at The Hollow at least a dozen times and feel at home when we pull into its driveway.

The stars are not truthful.....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/28/07
The first room we were assigned had no hot water. The room was also grungy; the benches at the foot of the beds had stains. Everything had late 1980's decor - as well as being well worn. We were "upgraded" to another room in the inn. We had hot water, but the tub non-skid stickers were filthy grey and the faucet was not flush with the tile - about an inch of copper pipe was visible. The refrigerator also smelled like sour milk. The continental breakfast was minimal:cereal, coffee and waffle batter. We were not impressed, nor will we be back.

Excellent Inn & Motel.....Highly Recommend
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/06
The Hollow Inn & Motel is the place to stay in that area. I wouldn't stay anywhere else. The price is right, they have a wonderful free cont. breakfast, service was great, the grounds are up-kept beautifully, very clean place, very large rooms and our overall stay was so much more then an A+. My husband and I completely enjoy our nice relaxing stay. Thanks you again!
