Seeing the white clapboards, canopied beds and crackling fires, you might think this inn was unmoved by new technology; but look again at the fireplace. The proprietors are beta-testing a digital device that simulates wood-burning noises when the gas stove is activated. This innovation exemplifies their style: the comfort and warmth of a B&B, but the modernity and convenience of a hotel. All rooms have private entrances, cable, telephones and air conditioning. Another quirk is the Barn-Stable (get it?): instead of a suite, it's a 1740 barn that sleeps four and has ample living and dining space.
