Surfer Beach Hotel, San Diego

I think it's a gem and a great value. The location is ideal, with a view of the ocean and the boardwalk. It's adjascent to Mission Cafe so breakfasts by the pool are easy. The rooms are simple and clean - don't expect luxury - but I'll take a room by the beach and boardwalk anytime.

Being right on the boardwalk is extremely fun. Right in the middle of all the ACTION. Fun to watch everything and everybody.

The staff was very nice, they did all they could to make everyone in our party comfortable. I absolutly love that there was an ocean view from every room. One morning there was a full rainbow just sitting on the ocean. It was nice to have so many reasonably priced restraunts around to eat at.

Great price, clean rooms, and friendly service. You'd pay hundreds in San Diego for a hotel right on the beach but not at this motel. No roads to cross and you can watch everyone on the boardwalk because it's right in front of the hotel.

The Surfer Lodge is a great place for your money. It has beach access through the gates to Mission Beach. It has great location to shopping and the Boardwalk. We stay here every trip to San Diego.

If you are looking for beach atmosphere, at a decent price, this is the place. This hotel is pure fun. It is RIGHT on the beach and we had a 4th floor non smoking room, #406. The rooms are clean, old, and maintained, but you are not staying here for the great accomodations, you are staying here for the ocean. The hotel is getting a much needed facelift soon, but again, it is clean, and basic. Our room (as all I think) had a balcony and we slept with the sliding glass open, so we could hear (and see) the waves all night long. Walk the beach at midnight, next morning get up and walk it with a cup of coffee from the boardwalk. Lots to do close also. I have stayed at lots of hotels, but this is by far the best experience I have ever had. The Hilton it is not in regards to accomodations, but the Hilton can't touch the soul like this great place.
