Great place to stay in Pac Beach
By ,
After staying the week in Downtown San Diego, this was a breath of fresh air. We booked a one-night stay and for the price we paid I was totally surprised by the great deal! The room is a little small, but you're feet from the beach. What do you expect, it's an older hotel. We had a 4th floor non-smoking, balcony room facing the ocean...AMAZING VIEW! The bed was comfortable and what better way to sleep listening to the ocean. Good size mini fridge for storage. Contemporay theme. The pool looked clean with a large deck to lounge on, along with a fire pit. Definitely try the Seaside Cantina...right outside the pool fence. AWESOME berry muffins, cheap eats for breakfast and lunch. Great location if you are there to enjoy the laid back beach scene and cheap local cuisine. Definitely will go back!

I will stay here again
By ,
I love the bed we slept in, it was a king size pillow top bed, very comfortable. The room was clean and decent looking. Has a young modern feel to it. The shower was small and dingy, they could have used some bleach to clean it up but is ok. The rest of the bathroom was nice. I liked the quality of the bathroom condements (shampoos, soaps etc.), by bath n body works. They said they had HBO, but they didnt. TV channels are limited, no movies to watch. That was a little disapointment. They also have complimentary coffee, cappuccinos and hot chocolate 24 hours in the lobby, tasty and good. This hotels back door was to the beach and we loved it. I reccomend this hotel a sweet little get-a-way !!!!

Not a Family Place to stay
By ,
To go from a Downtown Condo to The Surfer Beach Hotel was the biggest mistake I made. The time of year was over the 4th of July. The beach was not the place to be during this time especially with young children. When I made the reservation I asked the staff if this was appropriate for family, but of course...it's GREAT for Family. NOT!! My 18 & 19 year old thought it was an ok place, except for the crowded - no room to move - beach and NO AIR CONDITIONING in the room. As for my 6 and 13 year old, it was definitely not appropriate, not the place for them. The room was tiny, a one person stand up shower stall, sandy floors, smell of ocean. Waking up in the morning had to be the worst of all - the smell of alcohol filled the air, the beach was nasty beyond compare. The dream of waking up to hearing the waves and taking nice walks along the beach never happened. Even walking along the boardwalk was nauseating. And beware of thieves, you blink and your stuff is gone. I was truly disappointed after viewing the pictures and the reviews, this was not what it said and the manager didn't seem to care what I thought. After 2 stops at the desk to talk to the manager, I didn't get one response. When I checked out they asked how my stay was and I let them know I was totally disappointed that I wasn't told the truth about the non-family atmosphere and the whole beach mess. The staff member said, yeah, we heard you were not happy....but no discount for the inconvenience - they got my money. Maybe going there during a different time of year is better???? Don't ask the staff cause they'll tell you what you want to hear to get your money.

Nice Surprise
By ,
My wife and I were afraid. We had read some negative reviews about the hotel being old, the staff being unprofessional, but what a nice surprise. *Room overlooking the ocean, just steps away from the beach. * Very updated and nice room - a bit small, but comfortable. * Staff was AWESOME! * Don't expect luxury, this hotel is for the folks who love the beach. * Plenty of restaurants on the 2.5 mile boardwalk.

The stench was overwhelming!
By ,
The rooms were extremely cramped. There was no air conditioning. It was very humid and hot during the day. At night when the breeze picked up (10:00), the fumes from the restaurant filled the room. The smell of grease made me queezy. Later my asthma kicked in and all in all that made for a sleepless night. The overuse of an extension cord worried me. I was too nervous to charge my computer. The wireless access was $7.95, not included. There were many fast food restaurants in the area. That was great as they were charging $189.00 for a motel type stay. The pictures showed a microwave, not in our room. The shampoo and conditioner were nice. We rented bikes and rode around wonderful bike paths. The smell of grease was the absolute worse aspect of the stay, one night! We left San Diego after this experience. I was exhausted.

cant get any closer to beach!
By ,
Even though yes the place is older and not as fancy as the hotels nearby you can't get any better for the price as far as cleanliness the room is only as clean as you keep it with the beach being right at your feet the only "dirt" you"ll have to complain about is the sand in your room which comes from the beach the kids can't get enough of. And to save money who can beat the kichens & all that comes with them. To be able to open your door & hear the sounds of the ocean! My brother turned us on to this place years ago & we recommend it to everyone!!!

Fell in love with it
By ,
I recently came back from spending Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday over at San Diego. My buddy and I decided on this hotel because of the pricing but were amazed at the service, location and views of this wonderful place. The lady that works at the desk was really great and helpful during our stay. The only thing that I would say was kind of uncomfortable would be the size of the shower. Other than that everything was great. I loved San Diego and will go back again in the near future and hope that there will be a room available.
