Not a Family Place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/13/07
To go from a Downtown Condo to The Surfer Beach Hotel was the biggest mistake I made. The time of year was over the 4th of July. The beach was not the place to be during this time especially with young children. When I made the reservation I asked the staff if this was appropriate for family, but of course...it's GREAT for Family. NOT!! My 18 & 19 year old thought it was an ok place, except for the crowded - no room to move - beach and NO AIR CONDITIONING in the room. As for my 6 and 13 year old, it was definitely not appropriate, not the place for them. The room was tiny, a one person stand up shower stall, sandy floors, smell of ocean. Waking up in the morning had to be the worst of all - the smell of alcohol filled the air, the beach was nasty beyond compare. The dream of waking up to hearing the waves and taking nice walks along the beach never happened. Even walking along the boardwalk was nauseating. And beware of thieves, you blink and your stuff is gone. I was truly disappointed after viewing the pictures and the reviews, this was not what it said and the manager didn't seem to care what I thought. After 2 stops at the desk to talk to the manager, I didn't get one response. When I checked out they asked how my stay was and I let them know I was totally disappointed that I wasn't told the truth about the non-family atmosphere and the whole beach mess. The staff member said, yeah, we heard you were not happy....but no discount for the inconvenience - they got my money. Maybe going there during a different time of year is better???? Don't ask the staff cause they'll tell you what you want to hear to get your money.
