What a great location
By Lori, 9/19/12
This was exactly what my family was looking for. Yes, we could have paid twice as much and stayed elsewhere, why would we though? We had three rooms on the beach, with parking (which we paid for) and close to everything imaginable. The front desk people were very nice during check in, our stay, and check out. The private balconies are nice the way they all view the pool and ocean. The elevator worked every time, though it's only 4 stories and you could use the stairs. The attached restaurant is a hot spot with delicious food. The rooms were small, clean, and the beds were comfortable. There isn't any air conditioners in the rooms. You can safely sleep with your balcony door open for some cooler fresh air. We just liked it :-)

DONT STAY HERE !!!
By adamm, 7/27/12
The pics are far from reality. The rooms have no ac. If you are going to lay on the beach and get alot of sun you will not sleep good at night when your done. If you have a room with a ocean view and leave the door open it will fill with smoke which may be better then the normal funk smell - your choice - .If you are a bunch of tatooed surfer beach trash or young party animals that can scrape up the room fee between the 6 of you , then this is the place for you .All others should look eles where.

No air conditioning
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/23/09
The hotel did not have air conditioning, this would have been a deal breaker to know before hand. Also the "fan" that was supposed to air the room was old and dirty and not adequate enought to cool off the room. If you are okay with not having any AC during your stay by all means stay at this hotel.

Never stay anywhere else in San Diego!
By CynthiaH., 12/19/08
The hotel was in the best possibly location right on Pacific Beach close to tons of shops and restaurants. The rooms were surprisingly quite clean and cute (we didn't expect much because of the low cost). I can't wait to go back to the Surfer Beach Hotel!!!

Just booked for a 2nd time in 1 year!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/08
Surfer Beach Hotel was a little dissapointing when I first drove up and the parking was a little difficult. I drove into town at 10am and check in was not until 3pm and when I asked about an early check in the staff bent over backwards to get me into the room by 11am. The staff was extremely nice and courteous. The room was small but looked very nice, clean, modern and deffinetly not lacking character. The shower was amazing and had a nice tub with jets. The pillow top king size mattress felt amazing after a long day at Sea World. The view was amazing from the balcony and even if you have a partial ocean view it is still an amazing view. It was right on the beach and just a few steps away from many cool resteraunts. When my girlfriend and I fell in love with it and I am taking her back in April to propose...hope she doesnt find this review. I highly reccommend it and it will be the only hotel I stay at in San Deigo...can you say ridiculous bang for the buck!

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/29/08
i stayed in the Jr. suite and i loved the balcony facing the beach and the way the room was incredibly comfortable! the rooms are small but i didnt mind. the only thing that i would have requested was a blow dryer, but other than that the staff was wonderful and the location was perfect! i def. plan to return :).

smoker beach hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/1/08
It would be a nice place except for fact that we couldn't get away from the cigarete smoke. They seem to allow smoking anywhere. The first room they gave us filled up with smoke every few minutes from the pool aria. Also the shower and the fold out bed in the mini suite didnt work. We asked for the same kind of room away from the smoke that was in working order, and they gave us a smaller room right above the employee smoking aria. The rooms get stuffy with the windows shut, and there is no ac or any other way to vent the rooms other than opening the windows. In that room the shower water would barely trickle out of the shower head. With the smoke and the employees yelling back and fourth to each other at all hours of the night, me and my family decided to check out early and finish our vacation next door at the Best Western, Which I highly recomend for non smokers. I will never go back to the surfer beach hotel, for about 100 more a night, the Best Western is a far better hotel.

Won't go back
By ann, 12/11/07
Very disappointed with hotel service. Our bedside lamp did not work. Hotel desk said someone would fix. No one came. We were to get HBO and was told desk would find out and call us back. No one called back and complained the next day. Very disappointing in their hotel service. Highly unlikely we will go back.

this place blows
By John Redmond, 11/6/07
This place is a total dump. How hard is to clean a room? It is filty - dust and dirt everywhere. When you pay $180/night you have certain expectations. It should be called Smelly Beach Hotel. The smell is a cross between mold, dust, swamp water, and dung. I would avoid this place at all costs.
