A jewel of an inn Calistoga
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/18/05
From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home by the owner Darla, and her innkeeper, Carol.
We stayed in the Redwood Room for three glorious days and enjoyed their company every evening during the wine and hospitality hour from 5 to 6 p.m. Our room was luxurious and was outfitted with antiques, a two person Jacuzzi tub, mini fridge, wood burning stove, and cable TV. Breakfast was a gourmet's delight with french toast and strawberries with Grand Marnier, or concoctions called "Gold Rush" which was a combination of eggs, cheese, julienne potatoes, and spiced to perfection. Other side dishes included specialty sliced sausages and a delicious fruit compote. Darla and Carol entertained us with amusing tales of local characters and shared a deep knowledge of the wineries and tasting venues in the valley and beyond. Their suggestions for dinner were always right on target and the discount certificates they provided were greatly appreciated. Most of all, we were put at ease and allowed to relax on our vacation. Both Darla and Carol are very down to earth and we look forward to going back again and again!
