Southern California's Hidden Value
We have stayed at the La Quinta at Irvine Spectrum 3 times (our most recent in June 2005). We keep coming back because of the terrific value and great service. As the last reviewer stated, yes there are train tracks on one side of the hotel and a freeway on the other. Our most recent stay was in the grain silo building, first floor on the highway side. We did not hear the traffic at all. There is a gas station, car wash and fast food restaurant in between the hotel and the highway.
This hotel has a free continental breakfast in the lobby of the grain silo building, which adds to the value.
Also, I've been making references to the 'grain silo building.' That's because half of this hotel is a converted grain silo (which actually held lima beans!). It's on the national register of historic places, and is a really neat place to stay. The first three floors of the silo building have round rooms actually in the silos with exposed concrete walls decorated with southwestern art. The rooms don't seem 'stone-cold' at all. The silo rooms have a couch and desk in them, in addition to the beds. The 4th floor of the silo building has standard rooms.
The new building has the main lobby and check in desk, and has standard rooms with exterior corridors.
The staff are very friendly, and there are 3 sit-down restaurants (Knowlwood, Tia Juanas and Dennys) within walking distance.
As of our June 2005 stay, the hotel was in the process of adding Free Wireless Internet to the whole building. The new building already had high speed wired connections, but the silo building did not. We were told that by the end of June, both buildings would have wired high speed connections, and that WiFi is on the way.
