Description

You will definitely want to come see this marvel where "The Shining" was filmed. The lodge was built with timber and stone from Mt. Hood and the 1937 structure is a national historic landmark. The smell and warmth of the fireplace soothe, while outside 40-foot winter snowdrifts and blowing winds make it quite an experience. Just steps from the slopes of Timberline Ski Area, the lodge is available for ski groups, events, meetings and parties.

Less than expectations
By ,
We had planned for several years to stay over a weekend and enjoy the Cascade dining room. What an experience. A wait staff that obviously did not want to be there, some issues with every meal such as lack of silver ware, no salad delivered when ordered, needing to ask for coffee refills several times. The views are incredible, however, the food and service in Cascade dining room were not up to expectations. When you are paying these prices you have every right to expect quality, hot food and good service and those items were not present.

Where Not to Eat
By ,
To the Management of Timberline Lodge: We had visitors from California, took them on a round-about tour; Vista House, Multnomah Falls, Bonneville Dam, saving Timberline for the last - thinking it would be the best. Wow! How wrong we were! We did everything first, ending up at the Lodge for a late lunch. What a tremendous disappointment! We all agreed it was about the worst we had ever had - including the service. It was a very, very peculiar buffet lunch with very strange combinations of food. Our friends said, upon leaving, 'well, this is certainly one lunch we will never forget!' Unfortunately, that will be because it was so bad. We never even asked what the cost was because we just wanted to eat. When the bill came we said, my goodness, at $2.95 this would have been way over priced. I had so looked forward to showing them one of our premier spots - and ended up with a dismal failure. Your restaurant menu, staff and cooks need so much help. I do hope you will be able to give it to them. We hated to leave a tip but felt sorry for the young adults working there who had had so little training! It was truly a fiasco, first class! I'm sending this in the spirit of helping you to re-establish a delightful destination in the Portland area. Sincerely yours, Judy Blumenthal jblumenthal3@gmail.com 6990 SW Chapel Lane Portland, OR 97223 503-244-0099

Great atmosphere in this historic landmark
By ,
Timberline Lodge should be at the top of the list for anyone coming to Oregon. It is like stepping back in time to what ski lodges were probably like 60 years ago. The food is excellent and the views unbeatable. I would not recommend staying in rooms that face the south during the summer because they are too warm to sleep in. Also if you are a light sleeper good luck with the noise... Our neighbor was talking on the phone in the morning and it was like he was standing right next to me.
