Great value, close to RMNP
The Alpine Trail Ridge Inn is a fantastic value and one of the closest hotels to the national park entrance.
The rooms are clean and comfortable, with heating and ac. Our family of four fit easily in a room with two queen sized beds and a small dining table. Each room has a microwave, coffee pot, and other amenities, including cable TV and high speed Internet. It has a heated pool, but the temperatures in early August were quite cool, so we didn't spend much time in the water.
Don't be fooled by your initial view of the hotel. It has a rather "motel-ish" look at first, but the rooms are very nice. The first night I was worried that there would be a lot of noise, but the rooms are quiet, even those facing the road. Since the only thing past Trail Ridge Inn on Moraine Avenue is the national park, the road gets very little traffic after dark. The Alpine Trail Ridge in has some nice perks, as well, including a small business center with a computer, printer, fax, and the like. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful; in particular they gave us very good advice on what to see and what trails to try in the national park.
The Sundeck Restaurant has really great food, including fresh trout and steaks, as well as "comfort foods" like pot roast and meatloaf. Again, the restaurant is a great value; the food is great, portions are generous, and the prices are moderate.
I recommend the Alpine Trail Ridge Inn highly to anyone looking for basic accommodations at a reasonable price, right near the RMNP, and with a really great restaurant.
