poor customer service
By Donna Purvis, 9/8/10
I made a reservation a few months ago for this coming weekend. I called Tuesday to cancel and was informed I did not give 3 days notice so I would be charged for Friday. Three days, according to them, is the next three days. Not counting the day you call. I argued my point and asked for the manager on duty. He was not in. I then asked for his name (Ben) and tried to call him five times today to discuss this with him. Finally, a desk clerk told me it wouldn't matter because he will not change the charge as this is "hotel policy". I disputed the charge from my bank account and stopped the pending transaction from processing. I explained I felt their handling of my calls were very poor and they were all very rude. I think Ben is not a real person as he made no effort to return my calls.

not the best vaction
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/12/07
The hotel messed up our reservations and gave us the wrong room. They did change it after we complained. Our lakeview room was a view of the parking lot. If you turn your head way to the north you could see bit of the lake. The housekeeping didn't bother to clean our room until 4:30 in the afternoon, and that was after we complained again. Wasn't our best vaction, and we will not stay there again.

I will never go back
By rebeccah, 7/3/07
When we reserved a room it was to be waterfront with balcony what we were shown is 3 rooms, 1 being an old conference room turned into bedroom, no balcony over looking the parking lot, 1 with a view of the public hot tub and parking lot and the last was a view of the parking lot and if you looked over the railing 90 degrees you could see the water. The rooms were dirty and smelled of stale tabacco. The manager was rude and told us we were going to be charged no matter what. We left and went to Traverse City and got a beautiful room over looking the bay for 1/2 of what Ramada was charging. I say thumbs down on this hotel.

Not what we expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/06
I visited the Ramada Limited in Mackinaw City on Aug. 25th and had booked my reservations on-line. We had a large family of 9 people and I inputed the information as such from the website. The site allowed a large suite with 1 king, and 2 queens lakeview. We assumed since the site took the reservation without any problems that it also had a fold out sofa and would actually accomodate all 9 people. The morning before arrival I also called en route to confirm the reservation and told the clerk that we had "9" people. She assured me they had the reservation and said no more. When we arrived the room only slept 7 of the 9 people (no pull out sofa). We also realized that "lakeview" is really parking lot view with a sliver of the lake visible about 400 yards away. We then called the front desk to inquire about possibly arranging for more sleeping space. When I explained the confusion to the clerk he stated that he could provide 2 rollaways for $10 each. When I argued that the on-line reservation was made for 9 people and that it was confirmed he stated that his records showed 2 adults and 2 children and that it was my fault for overbooking the room. He then placed me on hold and then I was disconnected. The staff at the desk was even more rude stating that this confusion was our fault and that if we wanted additional rollaways we would have to pay for them. I had forgotten my on-line receipt and they would not believe that we had inputed 9 people. I stated that if I had 2 adults and 2 children, I wouldn't need a king and 2 queen beds and if the room did not accomodate 9 people why did it not say so in the booking process. In addition, they told us lakeview is not "lakefront" as if we should have known. Instead of helping and accomodating us with a couple roll aways or different accomodations, they continuously argued that we were at fault and that if we wanted to pay an additional $10 per rollaway they would accomodate. It became not about the money but the fact that we felt we were being called liars and idiots. We finally paid for one rollaway (which came with no pillow) and my son slept on the floor. The room was fine. The staff was horrible. When we inquired about who the manager was we were told his name was "Ben" and his last name no one could spell. You shouldn't have to spend the first day of your vacation arguing with hotel staff. Never Again!

Bad experience with manager on duty
By Michael, 7/18/06
After staying at the same hotel, the same weekend, in the same rooms, for the last three years, we booked our rooms the very first day reservations were being taken this year. We arrived only to find that our reservation was messed up and what we booked was not what we were being given. Another family checking in at the same time had a similar problem. The manager on duty was terribly rude and accused us of lying. He offered no assistance whatsoever and did not seem to be distressed over how loyal customers were being mistreated. Needless to say, we left the next day.

Regular vacation destination
By Judge Aldredd, 5/24/05
My best friend and I have been taking a trip somewhere different every year on Memorial Day week for a number of years now. Last year, we decided to visit Mackinaw City, and we were so impressed with the destination, and this hotel in particular, that we decided to come back this year. For under $60 a night (for someone from Philadelphia, I almost choked when I found out how cheap this was), you get a huge, well-kept, comfortable room with a lakefront balcony, coffee maker, fridge, etc. that is right next to the only high speed ferry to the island. Great service and food as well.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/26/05
Our Family has made this destination our once a year trip to Mackinaw. You could seriously not ask for anything more wonderful! The Owners, the place itself, location, workers, all our OUTSTANDING! Price has went up finally to where we have to look elsewhere. However, if you have the money this is the PLACE!
