BEST WESTERN PLUS Holiday Sands Inn & Suites, Norfolk

I am grateful that some other reviews did not discourage me. I simply called & the staff person was so helpful; he did not flinch when I asked if reported bedbugs was right. There were no bugs. the faclity was clean & well maintained. The location of these accomidations was good; being on bay was wonderful!!!! The staff at this location were/are wonderful individuals. I found room very very nice/ and any/ all requests were met quite promptly. I am really glad to have discovered this spot.

We have stayed at this facility for the past 6 years and this was by far the worst conditions ever. We were placed in a very small room where the kids had to use a pull out couch that had a bad mattress and the springs poked them in the back all night long. We asked for a newer mattress and was told they were having "Maintenance problems" This was the story of the whole visit! Everything we asked about was "maintenance" problems. They gave us a new room, we did our check for bed bugs, as we always do, and guess what we found.. YEP! BUGS! We decided to stay in our current room instead (we knew it was safe) Went to the local Wal-Mart and purchased a mattress pad for the kids so they could sleep. They told us protocol for a room that has found bed bugs was to Quarantine it for two weeks along with the ones beside it & above it, have them cleaned & rechecked. Guess what.... a few days later they rented it out anyway with no cleaning at all! We ended our stay immediately and checked out. Those poor people had no idea what this hotel just did to them, I pray they did not have children!. I told them at the front desk that I knew what they had done, guess what, more issues with "MAINTENANCE". The pool was terrible! The pump was not working properly, so the water was so cloudy.. they dumped shock into it every morning just to keep it going... more maintenance problems... the washer & dryer broke down each day. For some strange reason they removed the water sprayers to rinse off the sand from the beach & instead have you go into the pool area to rinse off... which is why the pool has a ton of sand in it & the pump isn't working! I was told when they removed them for inspection, someone plastered over them. The rooms were not nearly as clean as they had been in prior visits, things have really gone downhill at this place fast. They removed the nice pattern they used to have on the pool patio & painted it a nasty cream color which was tarnished with mildew in a lot of places. The pool had two year old scum on the tile, made me ill to look at. I kept expecting to see someone out there at night time starting a cleaning process after the pool area closed.. nope, never happened.. There were hair ties & foam pieces from kids toys that are probably still there! These people do NOTHING to clean! They didn't even water the flower pots, they just replaced the flowers when they died, I even commented to the guy that if he watered the pots, they would not have to buy new plants each week! I was truly saddened by this trip.. After six years we will never stay here again... Such a shame.... I don't know what happened.

I've stayed at this hotel twice this summer, once in July and once in Aug for 3 nights each. It is not a luxury hotel but definitely nice enough. The beach is fantastic and not crowded which is exactly what I'm looking for. They do seem a little difficult to work with as far as getting the exact accomodations you want. It's more like take what you are offered because that's all you're going to get. I was never offered a room in the tower with the oceanfront views so I'm not sure what you have to do to get them. Free breakfast is great, housekeepers are most accomodating with anything you may need and very friendly. I would not hesitate to stay again and already plan to!

we got to our room-it had not been cleaned with dirty towels on floor, bed not made and trash all over. room very-very small with only a small walkway between bed-TV and small fridge. stay somewhere else. also there is very limited parking-get there early for a spot.

Booked directly through Best Western for 2 Queens and a pullout. Get there to find that the beds are NO larger then FULLS and NO rooms with pullouts were available. Asked for a cot and was told that they do NOT accomodate for that. The beds were nice until turned back, the sheets had dark stains and streaks throughout. Then had to listen to other patrons in the parking lot, partying with music turned up most of the night, as well as fighting neighbors and slamming doors. Needless to say, it was NOT a restful night stay. Woke in the morning to find puddles of water in the room from a leaking shower nextdoor. Totally saturated a travel bag with cloths and gifts, and may have ruined a DSLR camera lens in a lens sleeve sitting beside it. Beds and accomodations are NOT what was advertised or expected. Breakfast was just a semi-continental with waffles and scrambled eggs, BUT mostly muffins and cereal. Would NOT recomend if looking for a restful stay. I Guess, you get what you "Pay For..." On a positive note... the staff was appologetic, and it has a beautiful ocean view.

My husband was flying into Norfolk with the Navy so I was meeting him down there. At first, I was really ... put off by the neighborhood. There are two parts of the hotel. One of the main one (shown in the pics) where oceanfront rooms only have windows, and the other is the "towers" on the other side of the check-in area. We stayed in the towers, king bed with kitchenette and balcony oceanview. We LOVED the view. Im a 20 year old female, and I stayed there alone the first night. In all honesty, I was more worried about something happening to my car rather than something happening to me. But, in the morning, my car was fine! I was pleasantly surprised. We had a great time, the people were very nice to us, and we extended our original stay. Its really cool, from the ocean front rooms, you can see the bridge-tunnels at night! Very cool sight! We didnt go down on the beach (its February...) but we did spend time on the balcony, and it was just amazing. I would go there again!

I find the bay view most appealing. the beds and other amenities are above reproach. There is really not much more to day other than what I have already stated.

well i'd like to say that you would never think that this hotel would be the nicest in ocean view considering its surroundings. but me an some frineds stayed there the other night i found them online. it was so cheap!! well of course its off season but the room was spottless! the people were very friendly i didn't feel as if i was staying in the ghetto!!! great place will be returning a.s.a.p.!!! check it out:) ~el doons~

Great location, spent 3 nights Ocean View rebuilt into a modern clean safe area, ON the beach, great sitting area at night to watch the ocean. Rooms newly redone, Will definately stay there again MB & MU Richmond & Farmville VA.

At first glance you may not be to sure about this place.. but don't let that fool you. Once inside i found a VERY cute kitchen fully stocked with everything i needed and even fancy starfish on the handles.. simply perfect! The furniture was seemingly new and up to date and the bed was comfortable. The best thing?? THE VIEW WAS AMAZING!!! This hotel is SMACK DAB ON THE BEACH!! I had a fantastic view of the ocean/beach AND the pool! There is a balcony that you can sit out on and ohOHoh you can walk to the beach ANYTIME no problem and it is "private". If you want a beach experience all around this place is IT! I hadn't been to the beach in 2 years and it was good to be back! You DEFINITELY get what you pay for at this hotel. Best Western has never let me down.
