Would never visit Poor Management Situation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/01/09
We had reserved a room with Cindy at Harborside, gave our credit card # on 8/27/09. I called on 9/1/09 as we needed to change our dates not cancel, spoke with Ruth. She put the info through and I hung up. Ruth called back to say the room was not available for the dates we changed to, we needed the new dates. I did tell Ruth to cancel at that point since the room was not available and I asked her if they had other rooms. She said no, none available. I called back for a Cancellation # and the $10 cancellation fee-did not feel we should pay it since Ruth had confirmed the new dates. She put Cindy on the phone with me. Cindy came on the phone very irate, would not let me speak much at all, every time I would start to say something, she over talked me. My husband tried to settle her down to talk out the situation, but she just kept ranting. She told me I was not welcome at Harborside and the island and that no one on the island would rent me a room because I was so rude. I tried to tell her, her behavior was not good business practice, but oh boy ... she got her $10 and she gets this review. Sorry she would not listen and deal better with a customer.

clean and comfortable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/17/08
My Wife and I stayed here for two nights in May 2008 and were completely satisfied with the facility. Clean as a whistle, brand new appliances and good location right brside the harbour albeit across the road but where we were on the second level we could see the water from the balcony.Friendly, trusting staff in the office across the road. I didn't have to present my credit card when we booked in. They said we'll just settle up when you leave. I had a long delightful chat with a very charming lady behind the desk. We talked about many subjects and made me feel like I had known her for all my life. We will definitely recommend this establishment to our friends and we will definitely stay here again on our next trip to the Outer Banks.

good location-but
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/07
I booked 7 couples into the motel after reading reviews. The rooms were modest, but clean. We booked so far ahead we forgot breakfast was included-no reminders in the room or at check-in. We understand it was very good. Be sure to take your confirmation with you-I was told I had booked one extra room. I mention this because the girl not only told me it was my bookkeeping mistake, but used strong profanity in doing so. After checking our confirmation at home, we found out we were correct. They had some pretty artwork in their shop and clothing, but we didn't go back in because we didn't want another confrontation.

wonderful time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/07
My husband and I stayed with the Haborside Motel for the first time in May/June. We found the motel to be just like they advertised. It is very clean, well maintained, and has fresh baked goodies for breakfast.(We had a good nights rest because the bed was comfortable.) We will stay here again. My only complaint would be that it's not on the water. However they do have a nice place on the water with lounge chairs to sit in. With outstanding sunsets. Overall a very simple but excellent place to stay.

Great
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/17/06
Very warm, friendly environment. Wonderful view of the Harbor. Location is close to everything. and the price is very affordable. If you can get a cottage room you might not leave the porch, but that is okay, it is the best sit on the island. We will stay there again on our next visit.

Relaxing, cozy, friendly atmosphere
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/10/05
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful, relaxing vacation to the Outer Banks. We stayed for 3 nights at the Harborside Motel and enjoyed Ocracoke. The location of the Harborside Motel was very convenient as it was very close to the ferry that comes from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter. The motel is also conveniently located across the street from the harbor and is in close proximity to many shops and restaurants. We only used our car to go up the island to a wonderful, undeveloped beached; otherwise, we just walked everywhere else from the motel. As for the staff, they were extremely friendly and helpful. They gave us great advice on restaurants and places to see! The rooms are modest but very clean and comfortable. Overall, we had an excellent and relaxing stay on Ocracoke Island at the Harborside Motel!

The hurricane honeymoon
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/30/05
My husband and I were on our honeymoon last August and had no idea where we headed. After spending one night in Charleston, S.C., we decided to head up north along the coast and explore lighthouses. As we drove we starting seeing billboards for the Outerbanks and decided to at least take a peak. What a pleasant surprise when we arrived in Ocracoke and stopped at the Harborside Motel. At first, we thought maybe the rates would be out of this world and we would not be able to afford it but, shortly discovered the rates were very reasonable and decided to stay. The staff was the friendliest and most helpful I have ever come across. They went the extra mile to help their customers. We actually felt as though we had known these people forever. Once inside the room, which overlooked the harbor, we were thrilled that we decided to make our stay in Ocracoke. We originally planned on staying in this lovely establishment for one or two nights but ended up staying a few extra days due to Hurricane Alex that came through. The staff was so helpful to us during this time. This was our first-ever hurricane. They kept us informed of the situation and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable. Our honeymoon was definitely one that we will remember thanks to the friendly and courteous staff of the motel and Hurricane Alex. We liked it so much we plan on making this our yearly vacation destination. We will be there again this year to celebrate our first anniversary, but perhaps just a little earlier in order to avoid the risk of another hurricane.
