Be VERY VERY careful (unprofessional management)

Please be very, very careful when making a reservation at this hotel. I booked 31 rooms online through the ChoiceHotels website for a wedding, and the hotel decided 2 months later to just cancel all of them, even though I had confirmation numbers with rates, dates, etc.
The reservations were made about 9 months in advance for July 2009. After making the reservations, I contacted the hotel to discuss logistics of guests making reservations. The hotel manager stated that the rates I received were not acceptable to him because he had not yet put the summer rates in the system. I asked him to discuss the issue with ChoiceHotels. After a few weeks, I followed up with him and in a very pleasant voice he said everything was all set. To me it sounded like he had worked things out with ChoiceHotels so I let it go. A couple of weeks later I again called him to discuss logistics and confirm what “all set” really meant. It was at that time that he said I would be receiving a letter stating that all rooms had been cancelled because the rate was not acceptable to him.
I eventually received the letter, which stated that all rooms were cancelled because a deposit was not received within 5 days of making the reservation. That “reason” was absolutely outrageous because when you make a reservation you provide a credit card number for them to take a deposit. Further, I even spoke with someone at the hotel (not the manager) 1 day after making the reservation to see when they would put the deposit on my credit card and he said not for 3-4 months.
I found another hotel, Patriot Suites, which was so much more accommodating, friendly, and professional. The rates are also excellent.
The bottom line is just because you receive a confirmation number “guaranteeing” you a room at a specific rate, do not take it for granted!!! The hotel may cancel on you if they don’t like the reservation.
