We are located in the quaint New England town of Amherst, the perfect vacation spot offering several venues with sporting events, concerts, shopping and outdoor activities. The University Lodge is approximately 8 miles from the major thoroughfare I-91, and is walking distance to the center of Amherst, Amherst College and the University of Massachusetts. Mt. Holyoke and Smith Colleges are both just a short drive away. The hotel offers wake-up service, faxes, free morning coffee in the main office, and free parking. A computer with internet access and printer are available for complimentary guest use in the main office. PLEASE NOTE: The office is open from 8am to 9pm daily with a 24 hour answering service. Those arriving after 9:00pm should check in at Howard Johnson, 401 Russell Street, Route 9, in Hadley, MA. Howard Johnson does not provide shuttle service to the Lodge. The Lodge rate will be honored, based upon availability, at Howard Johnson for those arriving after 9:00pm. Reservations for 5 or more rooms must be made through the Sales Office. Please contact University Lodge directly to reserve your block of rooms.

Simple and quiet

I found my room (non-smoking) impeccably clean and tasteful. The staff was cheerful and went out of their way to help me. The lodge is in a quiet, secluded part of town, a little tricky to find at first, but very close to downtown. All in all it's a perfect place for people with modest needs.

Filthy

Nothing. The rooms were filthy and the room was barely cleaned. The noise form the heat kept us awake. The receptionist, however, was friendly. I do not recommend

clean but weird smell

The hotel was clean, the beds somewhat soft but the main disadvantage was the weird smell in the room. Perhaps some kind of disinfectant? There was no one at the desk when we left in the morning. The smell made me not want to return.

Unhappy Stay

We stayed here for a soccer tournament in Amherst. Our main complaint was about the toilet paper. When we arrived, there was only a half of roll in the room. When we asked for more, they said that they would have some for us later, which we did not recieve until the next day. Also in our room we dd not recieve any facecloths. Another thing was the lights. We got in there and turned on a light and it would not stop flickering. After talking to other guests, this was happening in other rooms too. There was no internet access at the hotel, however they did allow you to use their computer in the lobby. Although, it was very very slow which made it so you couldn't even use it. For the event we were at this weekend, the price was raised to a excessively high price which was $150 a night. That is unfair for such little this hotel offered.

Clean rooms & Good Value

Staff was very helpful and accomidating. Nothing fancy here but had a very good experience for an extended stay. I would come back again.

Good basic lodging

The University Motor Lodge is not a fancy place, but I found it to be clean and comfortable. It's within walking distance of downtown Amherst and U-Mass. There are a lot of college students in the area, and there are some fraternities, but I did not find this to be a problem (I was there on a Tuesday night, and maybe the neighborhood is different on the weekend). Hotel staff happily accommodated all of our requests (such as arranging for late check-out).
