Perfect Motel; Ignore every other review
My fiancé and I stayed at the Day's Inn Motel on Foxon Blvd in New Haven for 10 nights from June 28th to July 9th, and it was absolutely superb.
I called a week or two in advance to book the motel room and arrange the price, and spoke to a very helpful gentleman on reception who seemed not only happy to help, but genuinely enthused about my trip (from Scotland to Connecticut).
When I arrived with my girl, we checked into the hotel with absolutely no problem. We were given 2 keycards, and told the best place to park based on the room we had (there was a 2nd floor to the motel, we were on the bottom floor towards the rear, so it was best to park there).
The first thing we noticed about the room was the cleanliness of it. Everything was cleaned very nicely and, after reading the horrible reviews on this page, I was truly shocked to find myself looking at such a well maintained room.
The linens were spotless and clean, the tables and bathroom were all sparkling, as was the shower and everything you could want vacuumed was vacuumed.
The room comes with a quite large television, with about 90 cable channels, including Fox, ABC, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim and many more. The only issue with the television was that when you go into the room you will find a laminate which tells you which station each channel is on, this is wrong, and the stations do not correlate to the laminate sheet. Just work it out for yourself, it isn't too hard.
The motel has 24/7 access from the automated keycard entry, which is ideal when you are up for some midnight snacking.
Oh, and one reviewer below said that there were absolutely no restaurants around. This reviewer must have been blind, and using a braile keyboard to review his stay, because the Day's Inn in New Haven is SURROUNDED by restaurants. Granted, they are fast food restaurants, but they are there.
Directly opposite the Day's Inn is a massive Wal-mart. Next door is a Dunkin' Donuts and dry cleaners. Day's Inn is on a strip which includes: Burger King, Taco Bell, McDonalds, KFC, 7/11, Another gas station and many other places to purchase some easy food and gear from. The great thing is that the majority of the food places are open to upwards of 2-3am.
Daily I would retrieve my complimentary copy of the USA Today from reception and return to the room to read it and check the TV listings. I would pick up the newspaper at around 3-4pm, and there was always a copy there, multiple copies infact. Do not feel that you will miss out on this if you go later in the day.
The air conditioning unit in the room was absolutely superb. It kept us chilly during the day, and freezing during the night (a little too good)! Whenever we went out for the day, we would make sure to turn the air conditioner onto the max cold setting. When we returned it was like stepping into a walk-in freezer, and was instantly gratifying when coming from the muggy heat of the day.
We kept the 'Do Not Disturb' tag on our door at all times (we're paranoid about out possessions), but at multiple time the cleaners asked us if we needed clean towels and toilettries and everything. This was very helpful of them, and we accepted with thankfulness.
The room itself was really large, and comes with an incredibly comfy office chair and desk, coffee machine, large television, radio alarm clock with dual-alarm settings, chests of drawers, a luggage stand, a hang rail and hangers, a refridgerator, a microwave and all bathroom amendities. All were in perfect working order and very clean (including the microwave and refridgerator).
People are saying the service was poor and the price sucks. Neither is true. The price and service are incredibly good, and as for those who say they would never go back...well...good! Less chance of me being unable to book a room, I guess. Because I would go back to that hotel room, in a heartbeat. It was great!
(Also, someone said it's noisy because of the street. Ignore that, it's as quiet as a mouse.)
