buyer beware

Please allow me a moment of time to express my deep disappointment in the Ner Beach Motel. I was initially encouraged when I saw them listed on your website, especially since they were considered pet friendly. Unfortunately, and to my surprise, they were not. I checked in for a weekend in one of the small cottages. The cottage was dated, smelled musty and of cigarette smoke, but was otherwise neat. I noted a large stain hidden under the kitchen table that smelled of coffee. Deciding to air it out, rather than leave, I chose to try this location out.
While there, my two small Corgis were crated as they usually are for sleep. Due to the wet weather and shedding season, they were frequently towel dried in the room. Whenever I was out, the dogs traveled by crate in the car with me. These are purebred animals with advanced training that live with me in my new house in Massachusetts.
I was surprised to receive a letter in the mail from the motel owners some one week after my departure. The charged my credit card 75.00 for a cleaning fee pet deposit which sited two large urine stains by the front door and pet hair on the bedding. My dogs are expertly trained and only weighing 12-14 pounds, do not leave large urine stains. I am sure there was pet hair on the bedding, it is unavoidable when pets shed. I assumed they washed the bedding inbetween guests. Furthermore, the letter stated that it was their misfortune that they didnt inspect the unit before I left.
I did attempt to call the owner, Nancy, to attempt to resolve this. She stated there were videos and pictures of the fur and stains. I explained that I was confused about this for the following reasons:
We stayed there two nights, and if there was a problem with excess fur, certainly we should have been notified.
We did not have either a pre- or post- inspection to compare old and new stains and the general condition of the unit. We used a urine de-acidifier in our dogs food which leaves urine odorless and prevents lawn damage. Stating that her housekeeper said the stains smelled like urine was also inconsistent. Any moisture on boots at the door can bring up old pet smells if they are not properly treated. perhaps these were old urine stains from previous pets that leeched through.
We entered into this with an element of trust, noting the dated paneling, musty conditions, and old stains on the carpetwe had no reason to believe that our dogs could have caused any of this damage. I am skeptical that the housekeeper did not mention any of this prior to our first night.
Finally, a housekeeper was noted to be smoking while cleaning the inside screened porch. We asked her to smoke away from our unit as it was considered a non-smoking unit.
I rely on the Chamber of Commerce websites to list reputable places of business. I feel manipulated and falsely charged by this establishment. The 75.00 fee is not the issue, I will dispute that with the credit card company as an unauthorized charge and be refunded. I wanted to make you aware of the situation and poor business conduct that could not be mediated.
Please consider list when visitors inquire about this poor establishment.
