My husband and I went in 2007 to Meeru to celebrate my 50th birthday. It was just like paradise and we couldn't believe it when we walked off the boat, along the jetty and into the cool of the bar. Our flight from Manchester was delayed and the journey had been long, but we were taken to our water villa by the buggy and immediately felt relaxed. We opted to stay at the 'adult' end, as we find other peoples' children stressful. Apart from a couple of times during the day, when a family came up to snorkel, we were pleased to be in the quiet part of the island. The food was delicious - well prepared and lots of variety. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. In fact, we were embarassed by the attitude of some guests towards the staff, as they all have to educated to a high level to get a job in an international resort ( the breakfast chef spoke 6 languages!!). We had such a great time that we've booked again for this year and have opted to upgrade to a JWV in the 700s. The only thing we won't repeat is the half day visit to Male - a waste of time and it was the only time we felt a bit ripped off. I would recommend it if you want a completely relaxing and calming break. How could you not enjoy a holiday where you don't wear shoes or a watch for 14 days!?
Me and my boyfriend went to Meeru Island for 2 weeks over Christmas 2005 and loved every minute of it.
Christmas day was spent having a private dinner (lobster, champagne etc) on the beach where my boyfriend proposed. The restaurant staff were happy to go along with my partner's requests of flowers on the table (spelling out 'will you marry me?')and lanterns in a heart shape around the table. I would love to go back for our honeymoon!
The rooms were clean and well kept (we stayed in a land villa) and a stones throw away from the beach. Though the pool was lovely I don't know why so many people chose to sit round it rather than on the beach?! Which was white sands and warm crystal clear water with lots of sea life to watch swim by.
The food was great, service was always friendly, and there was plenty to do during the day/evening.
We went night fishing (great fun you can eat what you catch for lunch the next day), and the spa was very relaxing we can recommend the 'Moon lit spa' where you and your partner are left after your treatments in a jacuzzi with champagne and fruit watching the moon and stars together.
Cant wait to go back!
this resort wa out of this world .i was in a standard room which was very central close to the bar not far to crawl back to after a few drinks .the island is very peacefull not the sort of place to go to if your looking for a lively holiday just total relaxation .
location was only 55 mins by speedboat which was very smooth .all the waiting staff could not do enough for you allways bringing you drink or food ,all in all probably the best holiday i have been .going back next year wish it was sooner .
Myself, husband and kids (9 and 12) went to Meeru last Feb for 2 weeks. What a fantastic place! Definately recommend the snorkel safaris run by the Ocean Pro - Jafar the divemaster was just fantastic, especially watching out for the kids when out in the open ocean.(If your children are reasonable swimmers, don't hesitate to take them out onto the reefs to snorkel). Myself and son did the PADI course - a challenge, but worth every penny. All the dive boat staff are great, and the instructors fantastic (again, especially with my 12 year old.). Also, we had 3 days (free, yes really) on the yacht Sarah (an upgrade offered as an incentive to leave our room for a few days as they had overbooked the island)- if you get the chance, grab it! Beach BBQ on a deserted island eating freshly caught reef fish and fresh pineapple, swimming with giant manta rays, snorkelling untouched reefs, a fantastic guide who was great company, and a wonderful crew who couldn't do enough for us. Truly paradise, and a very special memory that we wil all treasure for many years.
I'd just finished a long hike through Chiang Rai and I was beat. Meeru was the perfect place to recoup - relaxing, safe and beautiful.
The boat ride at night, under the stars, from Male to Meeru was enchanted. When I arrived I felt like Robinson Caruso in my very plain one-room cabin (the standard room) that was set next to a palm grove and about fifty feet from the ocean. I hung up my hiking boots and put on a sarong and hung out for a week - reading, diving and swimming. Heaven.
The food and service were excellent - and they simplified things by calling me "California" because I was a novelty: most of the tourists were Japanese, English and French.
A warning: The guests eat in a huge open-air restaurant with splendid buffets. However, since I'd traveled alone and the tables sat 4 or more, I was seated with 3 other people, who happened to be French. My table thought it was great fun to force me to speak French and then criticize my pronunciation and grammar. I probably should have asked for a reassignment.

the island is so beautiful and you could walk around without bumping into anyone if you want privacy alternatively they have plenty of things to do for the people who want the best of both worlds, the staff are so friendly and really make you feel at home, the food was fantastic and so hard to choose only one dish, we really cant wait to be able to go back, we will definately go for longer next time.
Meeru Island Resort offers a great accomodation i found interesting Details of meeru at Beaches Maldives dot com.
Meeru Island Resort, fondly known as Meeru by friends, offers a relaxing casual atmosphere. A large island by local standards, much of the island remains untouched, with its natural vegetation intact. It is certainly the resort for you if you would prefer to kick off your shoes and enjoy a casual atmosphere in which to relax
