Very Exceptional for what you pay for!
By ,
You'll notice that most of the "good" rated hotels for Tokyo cost near or over $200 a night. For the money of what you pay for, I'd say its pretty damn exceptional because: -Mini mall within grounds of the hotel -Nice small acquarium to take kids -Many restaurants within grounds -Friendly Service -Train station accross the street I stayed at the Annex tower so it was the one with the smallest/cheapest rooms, but it very well suited my needs. As a single tourist, i only needed my room to go to sleep, personal hygiene, and internet so i spent no more than 8 hours (all together) a day in my room. It was very clean, room service always cleaned it everyday and replaced anything in the room that was disposable. Once you learn how the Japan public train system works, it is VERY EASY to get around tokyo (thank god for youtube!), i was able to figure it out in a few seconds once you see how easy it is to put everything into an english translation. I dont recommend taking a cab ride to the major districts of Tokyo though or even taking a cab anywhere (on a frequent basis) from the hotel since the value of the Japanese Yen is pretty strong compared to most countries around the world. All in all, I would stay here again in my next visit to Tokyo!

Great experience
By ,
We loved this hotel. We booked directly through their website instead of using hotel.com or other go-between companies (don't know if that might be why people have problems here). We booked a smoking room (only cause it was cheaper) double in the Annex tower for 7 nights. We didn't pay at that time of reservation, so all we had was a printout of an e-mail confirmation. I was afraid that since we weren't allowed to pay in advance or pay a deposit that we would have problems. But on the contrary, check-in was very smooth. They asked us if we wanted a non-smoking room instead, and we said yes, thinking we'd see an increase in price, but it didn't (paid a little over $100 per night, which I don't think is bad for a great location in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the world). We were on the 17th floor and had a good view and huge king size bed. Room was a decent size and the bathroom was very nice and big good size. Room had a desk/chair, a vanity/stool, another small table, 3 drawers and a closet. Of course, if you're accustomed to grand hotel rooms, this would clearly not be the choice for you. It was simple, very clean, and had a great flat screen TV. A long distance call from the room cost us ~$1.75 for a minute or two. Was happy with that. Also, we found out that we had free internet in our room... apparently they charge the other towers, but not the annex tower. Sweet! We were also able to save money by only having our room cleaned every other day. I heard about this before we arrived, but did not know about the paperwork involved. There is a green form included in the papers that are in the room upon your arrival. It's part of some kind of 'go green'/'save the environment' program. You just put your name and room number on the form and leave it on your bed. They'll get your trash, but not clean or make the bed. Go to the desk later and they'll give you a $5 coupon for every person staying in your room. By the end of a week-long stay, a couple can accumulate about $30 worth of free entertainment/food, which really helps on a tight budget! As many have said, the location can't be beat, especially for first-timers to Tokyo. It's right across the road from the train/subway station. When we got on the Yamanote line/inner circle, it was less than 20 minutes either way on the loop to nearly everything we had on our list. There is a bullet train that goes straight to Kyoto from the Shinagawa station and also, the Limited Express from Narita goes straight to Shinagawa also. The only downfall was that the bed and pillow were on the hard side, but it did its job... We were so killed when we came in at night that I would have slept on the floor. Overall, loved it and would definitely stay again.

Great location to the subway. Clean rooms.
By ,
Excellent proximity to the subway. Very helpful staff. Good selection of restaurants near the hotel. Wings department store next door. I rarely eat at a buffet but I wanted to try local dishes and went to 4 different breakfast buffets restaurants on the hotel grounds. All were slightly different and a great experience. Of course, tried many restaurants away for the hotel as well. Would stay there again.

deceptive and dishonest - watch out for last minute fees
By ,
I booked a reservation for 3 people via hotels.com. Upon arriving at the hotel, the front desk insisted that we would be changed an additional $59 for an additional person, claiming that our reservation only covered 2 people. They were unwilling to reverse the charge or even work with us on a compromise. If you don't want to be surprised with huge last minute fees or left in a foreign country without a place to stay, I would avoid this hotel (incidentally, hotels.com was even less helpful--they couldn't provide any information about the reservation because their entire system was down for several hours).

Great location!
By ,
I really really enjoyed my stay at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel. The rooms were clean. The view was great. There were plenty of places in the hotel to eat if you didn't want to venture far from your room (everything from McD's to Kobe Beef). And you were right across the street from a train station that could take you where you wanted to go in the Tokyo area and beyond. I plan on going back to Japan as soon as I can, and I will stay at the Shinagawa Prince again.

i can't wait to go back!
By ,
I absolutely loved it there. They had a ton of amenities, and I would love to go back again. They had the lovely little theme park, and the great aquarium, along with a movie theatre, bowling alleys, shopping in the bottom, and bullet train access right out the door! They had pretty good food, and a ton of great experiences. I cannot wait to go back!

Least favorite of 3 hotels
By ,
We just got back from 2 nights at the Takanawa Prince (in Shinagawa), 2 nights at the Hotel Granvia (in Kyoto) and 2 nights at the Shinagawa Prince. The Shingawa Prince had the smallest room and the shabbiest furnishings. From its website, we expected the Shinagawa Prince to be the best of the 3, but it was the most disappointing. Pros: 1. Decent location across the street from the Shinagawa Train Station. 2. Yahoo!Internet Cafe with unlimited internet access if you buy a drink (for 500 yen). 3. Movie theater and bowling alley in the hotel if you're interested, but why go to Japan for that? Cons: 1. Relatively poor value. Cost as much as the Takanawa Prince which is only a 5 minute walk away, but the service and accommodations were inferior to the Takanawa Prince. 2. Our room had a view of a parking lot. 3. The bathroom reminded me of an airplane bathroom with a bathtub. The Shinagawa Prince is not a bad hotel. It just suffered in comparison to the other 2.

Watch Out when booking here !
By ,
Just came back to the states from a nice visit to Japan. Which included (4) nites at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel. I wanted to point out something NEGATIVE about this hotel. First, there are (3) buildings in the Shinagawa Prince complex: The"New"tower, the"Center" tower and the "Annex". When I booked this hotel for (4)nites at approx. $130.00/nite, I thought I was getting an average room for an average price. Considering you are about 15 minutes south of Tokyo via train and there are lots of hotel alternatives. I was wrong. When we checked-in at the glittery main desk..we were advised that our rooms were around back of the complex, in what we later learned was the "Annex". An old, rather dirty, building tucked out of site in the rear of the complex. The room(double)resembles what you would find at most US college campuses. A dorm room, very small and not comfortable at all. The room we stayed in had two single beds,a small round coffee table, small chair and old color tv. The cigarette smell was very strong. The bathroom is approx.20 square feet. The room is maybe 50 square feet total. It reminded me of staying in a small rv (motorhome or travel trailer). On the second nite we were offered an "upgrade" of approx $84.00 per nite, which we declined. My wife and I decided not to give this place any more of our money. So buyer beware..They book you into the "Annex" on their teaser rate..and then offer the old bait and switch..to a $100 per nite upgrade, which makes the total rate for this class of lodging not a good value at all !! It is right on the Shinagawa train station, which is a plus..however we will never use this place again, as there are a ton of better values out there. Do your homework, as I failed to do and enjoy Japan and stay out of the "Annex".
