NOT near the airport, accessible, or internet connected
By jcphk, 2/23/06
The information on this proerty is very misleading. It is NOT near the airport - 45 minute very windy, rough ride, and if you don't book a taxi well in advance to get anywheere you may not get one - they are sparse. In additon I had to haul my luggage up stairs - no elevators!!!! They claimed to have internet connection but all they have are a couple of compluter and those don't 'open' until 10 a.m. Really misleading and am very disappointed in the information provided by Yahoo.

Terrible
By lauren kiesel, 3/1/06
This is one of the worst hotels I have stayed at. I requested a non-smoking room and there was a "No Smoking" sign in it but the entire room reeked of smoke. The hotel is very dated and drastically needs to be updated. The people were friendly and helpful but overall the atmosphere was awful.

Magnificent
By David, 5/3/10
I have stayed at the Okura something like 20 times in the last 15 years. Never has it been less than perfect. The service is extraordinary, the food is fabulous (a little on the expensive side though) and the location is perfect for where I do my business. Yes, it looks a bit 60's, but that is a part of its charm. I get so sick and tired of the same cookie cutter marble and glass hotels which the big chains think are the way to be. Time definitely slows down in the Okura and I find that wonderful as an escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo

Great service but a bit dated
By Peech, 7/14/06
Okura has always been known for their good service, and the location is pretty good for the business traveler. Unfortunately I feel that the property is a bit dated and parts of the hotel are showing their age. Sazanka in the hotel offers one of the best teppanyaki in town.

National treasure?
By John Marcom, 10/15/05
You almost hope they never touch a thing at the Okura. It dates from an era when Japan was a mystery to the world and its exotic customs and difficult language made the city outside the hotel doors impenetrable. So the Okura set out to provide the comforts of home while offering some of the feeling of Japan. Its design is well noted. But the small things are what marvelously haven't changed -- the little origami crane on your bed, the quaint descriptions on the breakfast menu like "morning rolls", the nice yukatas, the almost military salutes of greeting every bellhop still offers. Tokyo's new Hyatts and Conrads outdo each other with glitzy style and are in many ways wonderful hotels, but you kinda hope there will always be an Okura. Although you kind of worry its clientele is increasingly little old Japanese ladies having tea. Oh, and the water pressure is amazing. After a long trip, nice. Renovating this place is a dangerous thing -- a late 90s attempt was roundly criticized by frequent stayers, and work seems to have not progressed beyond one floor. The latest attempt to upgrade the rooms on the top two floors of the main building is a mixed success. I passed on the 20,000 yen supplement to "relax" with 20-minute massages...But the shower room--with, shockingly, a window out to the bedroom--is a winner. Makes a great new place to hang out.

Great service
By John, 8/15/06
I've never been to a hotel with better service. Staff were all extremely helpful - even getting a gift I'd bought safely wrapped for me while I was at work. Food in the restaurants was excellent - great Teppanyaki and Sushi, if a little expensive :) Room was beautifully designed and laid out.

Possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed in.
By John, 12/5/05
The Hotel Okura is a cool hotel with traditional Japanese hospitality. We recently stayed there for 5 days while vacationing in Tokyo and I will say the Hotel Okura made the trip. The lobby with it's retro 60's teak wood decor made you think that James Bond would walk through at any moment. Just one thing to say "Top Notch, Top Notch."

The best service I've ever had
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/15/04
The rooms were larger than I had expected them to be. The complimentary breakfast was excellent, and the workers were very helpful. It seemed like everyone in Japan went out of their way to please me and my family. Hotel Okura in Tokyo was the overall best hotel I have ever stayed at, and I consider myself an experienced traveler.

Superb Service
By Thornhill, 11/15/04
The Okura is one of the classic Japanese hotels in Tokyo. The level and quality of service is very high. The rooms are nicely appointed (a bit on the small side compared to the US; but normal for Japan.) The decor of the hotel reminds me of 1960's-era modern. Some might find it a bit dated but I could just imagine Dean Martin standing there in his smoking jacket sipping a martini. The hotel is across the street from the US Embassy and is 10 minutes walk from the nearest subway station.
