Des Alpes Hotel, Spiez

We stayed here a number of years ago and we loved it. The hotel is charming and the views from the rooms were great. Fabulous location and helpful staff.

Every time I get off the train in Spiez and see the mountains and lake, I want to scream because it is so beautifully breathtaking! Have been there many times and it never fails to capture me. Hotel des Alpes is the best hotel there, even though it is a bit worn. Views of the lake and mountains from the ceiling-to-floor windows are unbelievable. Food in the dining room is absolutely excellent!! I don't care how much the $ is worth compared to the Swiss franc, this is the FIRST place I think of traveling to when I'm planning a vacation. It's a a good place for your base; one can easily travel to Thun and Interlaken and on to the Jungfrau, Gimmelwald, Grindelwald, Wengen (worth a trip, as well) and be back at Spiez in the evening for a bubble bath and nice dinner. That it is located next door to a bakery is also a plus -- lovely aromas start drifting up to your room at 6 am. Impossible to resist!
