Continental Inn, Santa Cruz

Only bad thing is that it is separated into two buildings .

When me and my boyfriend first arrived they were very nice. As we got into our room the bed was big and the room was decent. The first thing I noticed was it appered to be a grass stain on the pillow cover. so we called and got that changed. We then went to the board walk which from the hotel is no walking distance. anyways we got back changed and went to dinner. as we got ready for bed we pulled the sheets down and there was a cornut in the bed the we took the sheets off and saw what appered to be pubic hairs. We were disgusted. we packed our stuff and went to complain. There was not manager available so we got moved to another room which the bed was smaller. It was ridiculous the person who helped us was very rude. She had us write a note to the manger for the next morning. Morning came we left the manger did give us some money back but didn't recieve any note. It was so annoying. My advice is the place is cheap but you get what you pay for.

I stayed there in a few days ago and the place is great it was a few blocks from downtown so you dont worry about parking but it is a bit far (6 blocks) from the boardwalk. Very clean and fresh. However at night when you go to bed bring an eye mask and ear plugs. The street lights are bright and the hotel is located on a busy street. Students drive around all day and the cross walk makes a chirping bird sound at all hours. SO ITS REASONABLE PRICE BUT REMEMBER to TAKE A SLEEPING MASK AND EAR PLUGS!!!

had no idea it was the weekend of the clam chowder cook off. every hotel was booked and any decent hotel was asking over $120 a night. i called the continental inn and the lady who answered the phone was very enthusiactic. we spoke and she asked me if i was in town for the cook off..i said it was my birthday. i wanted a queen suite,which was one of their bigger rooms and they were all booked so she booked me with one of their new boutique rooms for $104. when we checked in the lady who had answered the phone remembered it was my birthday. she was very pleasent. we went up to our room. it was a lot smaller than i thought it would be,but very clean. bathtub,floor,fridge,blankets..clean. i'm extremely picky about clean hotels. the only 2 things that bothered me was pay per veiw movies were $10.99 each! (plus some sort of service tax) and the annoying light in the hallway. when i sleep i need complete darkness. either way. our stay was comfortable,quiet and overall great.

They advertise and have a sign pet friendly, but when we went to check in they said no pets.A 4 lb yorkie was too much for them.We used to stay there every time we went to santa cruz and was a good place. Under new management i guess

The best thing going for the Continental Inn is the location within walking distance of the Boardwalk and downtown. There are all kinds of odd things about the motel. Half of the rooms, and the jacuzzi, and wireless Internet access point, are on one side of a busy street while the other half, and the pool, are on the other. The pool is squeezed into a back corner with very little sun. The rooms vary significantly in size and accoutrements. Maintenance is spotty -- light switches that don't work; overflows not hooked up in some of the bathroom sinks.

After a look from the outside, this place appeared to be comfortable and modern. Later the night we realized that a couple of drunk teenager in the room next to us screamed and shouted over the whole night, thereby keeping us sleepless. I tried to contact the manager twice who was not responding although I ask twice for assistance. Therefore, I would not recommend this etablissement to anybody since the surrounding appears not to be very nice and the breakfast is not worth trying it.

Our first night was fabulous. The young girl working the front desk was very pleasant and recommended good places to eat. In fact, she was the ONLY one that was of any assistance. The next morning we woke up to ants all over our bathroom floor. I immediately contacted the front desk and an older woman said that she would take care of it, which she never did. The next morning, there was not only ants in our bathroom, but on our pillows and in our bed. I was so disgusted!! After notifying the front desk (AGAIN!!), they found it funny...FUNNY THAT THERE WERE INSECTS SLEEPING WITH THEIR CUSTOMERS!! Funny way to do business if you ask me. After walking around town, we found plenty of other places that we can stay at next time!.

I decided to write a review because I just recommended this place to a friend, then found these reviews and was surprised to see that some people like it and others didn't. It is unfortunate that some people had a bad experience. For me, the place was great. I stayed there twice a week one quarter about five years ago when I was TAing a class at UCSC, so I stayed there a lot. I never had a problem with the room, and they were always able to accommodate me. When I looked at staying somewhere else, the prices were significantly higher, so I just kept going back to the Continental. The room was clean, and the staff was nice.

We made a reservation, held it with a credit card, and spoke to the hotel at 5pm the evening we were to arrive. We told them we would not get there before 10pm at the earliest, and specifically asked if that was ok, which the person on the phone at the hotel confirmed it was. We arrived at a little after 11, only to be told our room had been given away, and that they will not hold rooms late at night as a matter of policy. I repeat, the on-site manager said unequivocally and unambiguously that their policy is to give away all rooms if you don't show up early enough. You cannot hold a room here - so if your flight is delayed, you get caught in traffic, or just stay out later than you'd planned, a room at this hotel is just a matter of luck. Of course, they had not told us this when we called and specifically told them we'd be arriving late. While we were there, we saw that parking in the lot is a nightmare - every single spot was full, and the spots were tiny, so unless you arrive early and drive a motorcycle, plan to cram in if you can find a spot at all (otherwise parking off-site and walking), and to get door dings trying to park here. After telling us our confirmed room was gone, and that the hotel had no rooms available, they then directed us to another hotel in the area, but without mentioning to us that the hotel they directed us to was _double_ the price of the room we'd reserved. We only found that out when we got to the other hotel and I specifically asked to confirm the room rate before signing the card. I strongly recommend against this place, and have also seen another review elsewhere in which someone else also had their room given away. Truly a last resort.
