Terrible customer service
After reserving a room to participate in the Lance Armstrong Foundation Moab Century bicycle ride, I arrived at the Moab Valley Inn, as scheduled, only to find that the hotel had mistakenly made my reservation for one week earlier and had debited my charge card when I did not show up.
Mistakes happen but should be corrected. The desk clerk offered me a substitute for the room I had reserved. It was on the busiest hallway in the establishment. She said that was all she had available. She would not correct the No Show charge they had put on my card a week earlier but told me I would have to take it up the with the desk supervisor in the morning.
The following morning, dressed in my biking clothes, ready to ride, I talked to the desk supervisor who, to my amazement, refused to authorize credit for the mistaken charge and told me to take it up with the general manager on Monday. I was astounded and was certainly unwilling to give them any more business. I told the desk supervisor I would be checking out immediately. Even then, I had to talk her into not charging me for the night I was canceling. She acted like she was doing me a favor.
I had to go back to my room to change clothes and pack so I could get out before the published checkout time. (I am sure that this desk clerk would allow no leeway in this regard.) Consequently, I could not participate in the ride. I am soured on Moab and will complain to the ride organizers.
