Overpriced and Disappointing
My sister and I decided to take our mom to Wine and Roses Restaurant for Mother's Day after seeing a write-up in Sacramento Magazine. All I can say is that I found the experience extremely disappointing and incredibly overpriced considering the quality, or lack there of. I ordered a steak with foie gras, broccoli and baby carrots. It sounded wonderful on the menu, but in reality, the "steak" was, bar none, the worst cut of meat I have ever been served in any restaurant. The only thing that made it palatable was the sauce. The carrots were reasonably good, but the broccoli was so undercooked as to be almost raw. Even the bread was dry and tasteless, nothing that I couldn't have picked up at any corner grocery store. When I dine at a restaurant that purports itself to be the "best in fine dining", I expect EVERYTHING, including the bread to be something extraordinary. To make matters worse, my mom said that her chicken wasn't very good, although she liked the soup. I can't even begin to describe what they did with the meal I had asked them to prepare for me to take home to my husband (before I had sampled my own meal). Suffice it to say that, had I been smart, I would have cancelled the order. I will never, ever go back, nor would I ever recommend Wine and Roses to anyone.
