Disgusting!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/11
Let me just start off by saying I knew we weren't going to be staying at The Trump Tower but I wasn't prepared to be staying at a hotel you'd find in Cass Corridor downtown Detroit.
As we were walking down the hall to our room we were suddenly hit by an overwhelming stench of smoke, and not just cigarettes. I thought to myself, aren't all establishments in Michigan now non-smoking? Ofcourse I already knew they were I just had to double check because I was surprised.
We open the door and the place smells of stale, closed up nasty, thick air. Like a damp basement almost. The walls looked as if they were caked in smoke and there was no screen in the window, so I couldn't open it to air the place out. And come to find out, not one of any of the windows in that entire hotel had screens. The curtains were nasty and stained and thick with old smoke on them. It was late-about 11pm so I was just thinking we had to "get through it". After putting our own bedding on the bed, I could NOT stand it. I went to the office and spoke with the owner. His words to me: "I know people are smoking down there and it's not just cigarettes and weed. But, I cant just go knocking on everyones door if I don't know who it exactly is". I was disgusted and appalled and shocked!!!! He was the owner, and claimed it was a "family run" place. He said he'd move us to the King Suite and we'd love it! And it would be the same price as the other room, no problem.
So, we pack up our room and move to the King Suite. Open the door and it's equally as disgusting except this room has a refrigerator. Walls the same, curtains the same, caret stained and nasty, dirty bathroom... you get the picture. We were tired so we "got through it". With 2 hours of sleep.
We woke up and barely spoke and packed as fast as we could! Paid and didn't even look at the receipt after checking out because we were in such a hurry to get outta there! And when we finally did later that day, ofcourse as the many untruths that were told in that window of time, he charged us the Suite price. $101.
What a slum lord! I've stayed at many places all over and in different cities from B&B's to 5 star resorts to motels and never in my life have I witnessed a more disgusting, dirty, nasty place. I swear has the health department even been there? Violations galore!
