Comfort Hotel Benvenue, Timaru

Cons: * Terrible staff. I think this place is family owned with the Husband and Wife manning the counter. Upon entering there is a foul smell of some ethnic food. Trying to check in is like an experience at the DMV, manager/owner takes his sweet time then HAD THE NERVE to scoff at the the rate that we got. Apparently we booked through a third party website that gave us a rate of $90 a night, when the owner/manager saw this rate he mumbled something that we should be "lucky" we got that rate cause it's normally $150 a night...*roll eyes* * The rooms are VERY outdated, stale, dingy and dirty. There literally was a mini fridge in the room from like the 60's. Broken light switches, dirty bathroom tile and grout. Needless to say, I didn't take my shoes off....ever. * Our room was next to the maintenance shed and at 3 am the water softener turned on with an infernal racket. Went to the front desk to complain but no one was there. Proceeded to wake up the manager to explain the situation. He pretends not to know what I'm talking about then goes to check it out. He tells us that the water softener will run 10 more minutes. 1 hour later it's still running...I go wake him up again and demand another room to which he predictably replies "We're sold out" yeah right! * They claim that they have wireless internet and continental breakfast but wen we where there the internet was not working and the continental breakfast was watered down OJ and cold hard pastries. PROS: * Close to the main strip. SERIOUSLY folks stay somewhere else...even sleeping in your car is better than staying at this dump. What makes things worse is that the manager/owner doesn't give a crap about you or your room once he has taken your money. Bad attitude, terrible motel! YOU COULD NOT PAY ME TO STAY HERE!! Thank God we paid with a credit card, we promptly filed a claim and got our money back.

Front desk person was very unfriendly. Opened the door and the room was musky smelling, on the e-net said it had a refig., hairdryer, ironing board and iron, coffee maker. Only had a coffee maker. Sink stopper in bathroom didn't work. Never again.

we stayed there 1 nite - in the morning I had bites on both my hands arm and leg please be very careful try not to stay - but if it can't be helped than take your own sheets

Yes, we stayed at the Sea Air Inn twice last year, 2008 and we were satisfied with the rooms and service. The family is kind and very helpful. Our little dog was welcome both times. They renovated the upper floor and stairs, so all is new painted and made. We love the location and the service.

First of all we left after paying for the room. We paid again to stay in an average AAA motel. The room stank of mold. The manager was no where upon check in and when we called. He has his child answering the phone and being at the front desk and printing out the receipt. When we saw the room (tiny and depressing) and the filthy steps, thread bare out door carpet etc.we thought we had entered a nightmare. The name wasn't even correct. On the side of the parking lot on the ground was the old sign "Ascott Inn." The new sign- Sea Air Inn was up. There is no connection to Ascott Suites but the manager there told us that she has asked to have the web site changed but they hadn't gotten around to it. These other reviews are from 2005. In the summer of 2007 I offer you this courtesy -stay elsewhere.

The service is less than to be desired, but most of California was. The room had a strange odor and the shower leaked. We could hear people up across the entire floor at all hours in of the night, not to mention our neighbor�s conversations. The one thing we liked about this hotel was that it's about a block away from a beautiful bay. For a couple of bucks more you can stay at somewhere with peace and quiet. Do a little more searching for another hotel�you�ll be glad you did!

We stayed at the Ascot Inn on July 2005. My husband forgot his Dr. Marten's and when we called to see if they had been found, we were told "yes." Some friend were still in the area and were supposed to stop by and get the shoes but they forgot. Then next day we had to fly back to Houston. We never called to Ascot Inn back about the shoes. In October 2005 we were back in Morro Bay for the day and thought we go by and see if the Ascot Inn still had the shoes. We never expected that they would but THEY DID, along with tons of other lost and found items all safely stored in a small closet. We are so impressed by the honestly of the staff at Ascot Inn that we wanted to add our review.

We love the location of this hotel. Once we get there we don't need to get into our car again until it's time to leave. Everything is within walking distance. The rooms are very clean and you can tell that the people who work there care. We've been there three times and can't wait to go back.
