A White Christmas
By Granny, 01/23/10
In 2009, in lieu of gifts, we took several of our family for three nights in Red Bud Valley beginning Christmas Eve. There were eight of us - mostly young married couples. Arrived Christmas Eve. Christmas morning we awoke to a blanket of white. We were in the Executive House and the view down to the lake was breaktaking. Deer around most of the time. It was very cold, but there was a fireplace and the young men enjoyed keeping it going. The kitchen furnishing were absolutely fabulous. We had turkey, dressing, etc. - the traditional Christmas dinner. The first place we ever stayed that had enough storage (pantry) space for all the "stuff" it takes to cook away from home. There were plenty of lovely dishes, some with seasonal patterns. The kids loved the hot tub. One of the most vivid mental pictures is of them running across the snow and up the steps through the snow, barefooted. The feet went directly to the fireplace to get warm. The grandchildren (young marrieds) enjoyed being together as they do not live near each other.
We will likely return, but probably not in such numbers. One of the grandsons has made reservations for he and his wife to celebrate their anniversary later this year.
