The Monarch, Edinburgh

I consider myself not hard to please and this is the first hotel I have ever felt the need to winge about! The room and ensuite bathroom were clean and tidy enough. However, all the staff looked like there had been a death in the family. From the moment we went to check in, the reception bloke was odd and not at all welcoming. The supposed "Full Scottish Sunshine breakfast" was the most meagre and drab thing I have ever seen, it's not hard to make a good fry up! My boyfiend ordered "everything" from the breakfast selection list and his plate was still empty looking! The atmosphere in the breakfast room and bar was like a mortuary. We didnt bother getting up for breakfast the second day, we got a breakfast roll from the spar instead, much nicer! All around I would say that the value for money here was terrible, you could easily get a lot better for less!
