Au Chateau Fleur De Lys Hotel, Quebec

We rented a room at the Chateau Fleur De Lys. I was not impressed. Ok, it's close to the Chateau Frontnac & the view is nice but that's it!!! Our room was not what we expected. The reservation lady sold it like it was a hot little number. Trust me there was nothing hot about it....well, maybe the water. Speaking of that, I tried to have a glass of water but nothing but warm water came out & it tasted like pure chlorine... No phone service or refreshment machines. If you can stay somewhere, please do.

If you want to be in Vieux Quebec for as cheap as $53 a night (for the dingy basement room with a full bed, shared bathroom and black and white TV in the room), but with a free breakfast that you can enjoy on the roof terrace, a stone's throw from the Chateau Frontenac and a short walk to ANYWHERE in this pedestrian haven (don't rent a car), here's your place! It's a nice Victorian building on a quiet street and if you are willing to pay $100, you can get a really nice BIG room with a Queen bed full of charm (I saw the rooms in the morning on my way to eat on the roof terrace when they were cleaning). If you want deLuxe, this ain't your place. A good alternative to the overbooked hostels. Also, if you are travelling last minute, there are similar hotels all down this street with similar rates that you won't find online, so just go walk around and ask for availability (that's what I did in August, in the middle of peak season, so it shouldn't be a problem).

We stayed last summer and found it to be a very reasonable priced place for the location. The room had its own bathroom, parking I believe was included, light continental breakfast (read croissant, OJ and coffee) was provided for only $99CAD per night. As for the location we were right in behind the Chateau Frontenac just off the park and about a block from the US Consulate.
