Beautiful House - Disappointing B&B
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/5/06
I was very excited to stay here at this historic beautiful 1880's Victorian that was recommended by a local friend. After 2 nights here, however, my advice is - tour the house - but stay somewhere else. Sadly, the current owner is more interested in collecting priceless antiques as a personal investment than actually running a top-notch B&B. The beds are hard and extremely uncomfortable. The coffee is never really hot, let alone tasty. The breakfasts (served late for one hour from 8-9) are unexceptional and nothing I couldn't make at home (3 cheese omelette one day and pancake from a mix the next). The bathroom was dirty (toothpaste splatter on the wallpaper) with tiny shower. The outside screened-in porch, which could be wonderful, badly needs to be repaired, cleaned and painted. The carriage house boasts a "suite" for families with personal TV. Laughable. The "TV" is at least 35 yrs old, 13 inches with dials --I'm not even sure it was color. It looked like the old black & whites from my youth. I could go on - but you get the idea. If you want the special inviting experience at a top-notch B&B, go 7 miles up the road to the Highland Lake Inn. That owner really "gets it" on what a B&B is all about.
