Maya Mountain Lodge, San Ignacio

We LOVED this place. I was nervous because I'd never been to Central America, but this place was absolutely spotless, no bugs in the room at all, the cabanas were charming, the food was incredibly good, and the price was so low. Staff welcoming and helpful. I can't figure out why other places are more expensive -- maybe because they have bars on site, or TVs and phones in the room? At Maya Mountain, they provide a fridge near the dining room and everyone who wanted beer, wine, rum drinks, made a purchase in the nearby town. This lodge is definitely adventure-oriented. And there were lots of families with kids in addition to the honeymoon copules. Pool nice. AC worked but we used the fan. Internet and phone in the lobby. Lovely.

We thought we were going to rough it in a hot, buggy jungle - were we wrong! The heat wasn't at all as bad as we thought and there is a wonderful mountain breeze, we hardly got any bites even in the lovely open-air dining room, and the "jungle" has been beautifully landscaped so we can fully experience it without fighting our way through it. First of all the service was amazing! We ate and stayed in a few places on our trip in Belize and we were actually disappointed in the lack of service we received in many places. But not at Maya Mountain, they happily re-arranged schedules for us, accommodated our food tastes and constant requests for more fresh bread, and took the time to answer our endless questions about foods, plants, lizards, and Belize culture and customs. The owner Bart would join the guests at dinner and share stories of his adventures in Belize. We had a chance to take a few of the tours - Cahal Pech, Barton Creek, canoeing, local market, and Mountain Pine Ridge. Wow, I think we learned more and saw more during that trip than we have in years. Our guide was awesome and would all of a sudden stop the van and point out a rare bird or landmark. He seemed like he was enjoying himself as much as us. Overall - we can't think of anything negative other than we wish we had spent our whole trip there. We would recommend Maya Mountain to just about any traveler who it looking to really enjoy Belize.

This was our first trip to Belize and will not be our last - Maya Mountain was perfect for our family. We rented a car at the airport and getting there was no problem (about two-hours of beautiful scenery). As soon as pulled up we were amazed at the beauty of the place � the best way to describe it is landscaped rainforest � flowering plants, palm trees, fruit trees, and tropical foliage everywhere. All beautifully arranged with charming cottages nestled in between. The adventure schedule seem to take into account all levels of guests � at dinner we met up with other guests who had been on a high adventure hike through some caves. My son (6yrs) and wife were able to take a canoe ride through the waterways of a cave, while my daughter (2yrs) and I did some light adventuring at the butterfly farm and the lodge nature trails. The staff was incredibly accommodating with our needs and happily changed around schedules for our young family. One of our favorite things at Maya Mountain was the food. It was fantastic. Everyday there was a four course dinner with fresh tropical foods and desserts. They were also extremely creative with our son�s food allergies � they had something special for him every night. The only negative thing we can say was the noise of the mangos hitting the roof during dinner (it was mango season) but the kids thought is was hilarious and our daughter learned a new word �mango�. We can only recommend what it was like vacationing as a family (and we would highly recommend Maya Mountain!), but we met many singles and couples while staying there and they all seemed to be having a great time too!

We are delighted with the Maya Mountain Lodge. The distinct and wonderful customer service was the best in the country! A must! Excellent food, friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was great to be in such a well kept resort.

We loved the staff at Maya Mountain and would return in a heartbeat! The guides were very knowledgeable and patient, as I am a 44 year old woman with arthritis. They never made me feel unwanted on any of the tours I took and all of the staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The food was magnificent, truly world class. My only issue was with the local wildlife, specifically the scorpion I found in my clothes one morning. We always felt safe there and enjoyed the swimming pool and other ammenities. I enjoyed the location, in that it was out of town a ways in the country and I did a lot of walking in our 2 weeks there. It was very relaxing and the rooms, while not sumptuous, were very comfortable and the overhead shower was great.
