Worst hotel stay - EVER!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/4/09
The website is totally misleading. Not sure what hotel those photos were taken, but I think I would like to stay there or have the photographer that photoshopped the Pelham pictures do my portraits.
The hotel was beyond filthy. Just to document the complaints:
1. Sheets (supposedly just changed) had long black hairs on the pillows.
2. The coverlet and blanket smelled musty, and felt grimy. The sheets were questionable at best - hard to tell if they were clean or not, considering that they were gray, threadbare and had holes in them.
3. There was dust, hairs, old cheerios from past guests, and other various filth on the baseboards, toilet paper roller, and along the carpet. We tried to plug in my laptop behind the nightstand and were disgusted by the years' worth of vile debris that laid on the baseboard. AND, the plug did not work either.
4. Carpet was NEVER vacummed upon our check in. My boyfriend stepped out of the shower, made the mistake of walking across the carpet in bare feet and thought he "forgot" to wash his feet because there was so much grime on them...FROM WALKING ACROSS THE CARPET!! There was so much paper, old food, pens, candy wrappers, tissues, dust bunnies and grime under the bed that our dog thought it was a buffet.
5. The refridgerator in the room had old icecream that melted all over the inside. That was NEVER cleaned out during our stay.
6. We called at 9:00 AM the next morning after checking in late the night before to ask if our room could please be cleaned AND vacummed. It was finally given a quick, inadequate once over at 6:00 PM!!! They did vacuum where they thought we might walk. The next day, our room was once again given a brief once over (i.e: trash cans emptied, "fresh??" towels, and the bed made) and we got 2 semi-clean bath towels...no washcloths, no hand towels no bath mat. We also got no soap and no toilet tissue - until we asked.
7. The weather turned very cold. Our room never warmed up past 51 degrees. The heat did not work. We were offered to move at 9:00 PM on our last night. We asked for 2 CLEAN blankets instead. Not sure what homeless person had to forfeit their coverlets. My suggestion to future guests: Don’t pull the coverlets up to your face and please leave the black light at home. Trust me! You do not want to know what body fluids have been left by past inhabitants.
8. When checking out, we called for bell service or at least a cart. Waited an hour and made several trips to bring down our items while my boyfriend had to clear up the wrong items and mischarges on our bill. A cart, bellman or help never materialized.
The rooms are of typical size for an older hotel, especially in New Orleans. This hotel has a TON of potential. It just needs to do some serious sprucing up of furnishings and MAJOR cleaning. Then keep it clean. The condition of the rooms at this hotel constitutes a science project! There is more leftover DNA in these hotel rooms than the crime lab downtown! The restaurant looks inviting, but hotel guests would NEVER set foot in it. If they can't keep hairs off the pillows when they are changing the bed, do you really think they keep hair out of the food.....or worse...are judicious about washing hands before food prep???? Not chancing it. Sorry. Not hard to understand why the restaurant was usually EMPTY!
I think we called the front desk every day that we were there for one item or another.....so the justification that issues cannot be resolved if they are not reported does not fly. Our issues WERE reported. When a guest tells the front desk that the room is filthy and could it be CLEANED AND VACUMMED with fresh sheets,.....that should be a HUGE heads up. AND yes, we did call the front desk when we found the long black hairs on our supposedly clean bed upon checking in. Doesnt that count as complaints?
Come on. This hotel could be a gold mine......CLEAN IT UP!
