More than we expected
By Jim, 11/13/09
Upon deciding to travel to the Catskills with some friends we chose Scribner Hollow as our lodging. We werent' sure what to expect but we were all pleasantly surprised. The staff was corteous, and attentive, the room had wonderful views and was clean and bright. It looked like it had been newly renovated. The restaurant was amazing! The food was incredilble and the wine list extensive. The staff was very knowledgeable and accomodating. The pool was a great place to relax and unwind after long days of hiking. The lounge area had a great antique wooden bar and a huge fireplace that was perfect for after our hearty dinners. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and wouldn't think of staying somewhere else when I go back to the area.

Well worth a revisit!
By James, 03/25/09
We were treated like friends, not strangers, during our stay. This is a classic mountain lodge. The view of the mountains was awesome. The suite was very cozy and well maintained by the staff. Also, there was always enough wood for the fireplace. The entire staff from the front desk, through the lounge and into the restaurant was courteous and very friendly at all times. The menu selections were many, prepared excellently and served with a smile. Don't venture out in search of another restaurant. The meals at Scribner Hollow are 5 star. We enjoyed a very peaceful and relaxing vacation. The front desk was very helpful with directions to area attractions and suggestions. No negatives noted.

This is Our Kind of Place
By Erin, 03/16/09
Everything was perfect... owners, staff, food, suite, pool... it felt like home. The owners and staff were friendly and made us feel like we knew them a lifetime. The food was delicious - knowing good gourmet food, this came out on top. The room had an amazing view of Hunter Mountain. The cost was high but worth it considering it was all inclusive with two meals - a great breakfast and a four-course dinner (the clams, the steak, the seabass - unbelievable) and even dessert with an extensive wine list! We cannot wait to go back to try the rest of the menu! We're making this a yearly anniversary getaway and also want to get back there as soon as possible.

Fall Paradise...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/25/08
My husband and I celebrated our wedding at Scribner Hollow on Columbus Day weekend, 2008. It was a second wedding for both of us, and our desire was for an intimate, special celebration for family and a handful of friends, and it was. From the beginning planning stages until the day we left, our special event was nothing but perfect. Kate and Guy Chirico are truly special people that treated us like family from day one. We cannot say enough about the service, the food and the personal treatment that we received that made us and our guests of approximately 40 people, make us feel at home. Every detail was addressed, and one or two unexpected near disaster's (unrelated to Scribner) were met by Kate especially, with utmost concern and attention. Our rooms were comfortable and well appointed (as Bride and Groom we had the Penthouse suite - amazing!) and the service lent by the other staff members was top notch and totally accomodating. Guy is a celebrated chef, and from the hor doerves that were served to the main entree's, it is easy to see why his restaurant The Prospect, has received top honors from major publications, the food is divine and well presented. The accomodating wine program was equal in perfection, and also award winning and noted in local guide publications. While the gorgeous, picturesque location could sell this place on it's own, the food and the service provided by Guy and Kate and their staff, make it a destination location to be envied by the local competition. We cannot say enough good things about our experience at Scribner, but the memories we have and the pictures of our wedding day there say it all - Perfection. Our heartfelt thanks to Guy and Kate Chirico and Staff for helping to make the most memorable days of our lives!

Personable Atmosphere & Attentive Staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/08
I thought Scribner Hollow Lodge had charm and above all catered to its clientele. It is a family-owned lodge and I felt their personal attention to detail throughout the entirety of my stay. I have a disability and they catered to my every need above and beyond what most hotels would do. The dining room had a warm and friendly atmosphere, so much so that you could visit with the people at the other tables, which I found very inviting. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. I would definitely stay there again and in fact I am thinking of a return visit in the fall to see the colors.

Splendor in the Mountains...a bit lengthy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/27/08
My fiancee and I were in search of a reception location for our Autumn 2008 wedding. Scribner Hollow was first on our list of possibilities. We booked an overnight stay in February, and were totally thrilled! We were warmly welcomed by the Lodge owner and shown to our room. Our room was spacious, and tastefully appointed in Adirondack style. It was clean, updated and the kingsize bed was totally comfortable, including large perfect pillows. The fireplace in our room was cozy, and staff even brought extra kindling and started the fire for us. Dinner was included in our reservation, as was breakfast the following morning. Both of us having traveled near and far, and my fiance having been property manager of a very famous Catskill resort for almost 20 years, we are not easily "sold" or impressed, but Scribner Hollow exceeded our expectations, especially after having read the negative reviews. Our dining experience was incredible. He chose the NY strip steak, and I had the salmon, though it was hard to make up our minds from all the fantastic choices. From presentation, to portion and taste, we had no complaints. Following our dinner, the chef/owner introduced himself and made sure we were satisfied. It is no great surprise that their restaurant has received rave reviews in local and state travel guides. The food fresh, mostly locally grown, organic, and professionaly prepared. Our selection of NY state wine perfectly accompanied our meal. We then relaxed in the Grotto, which is where the hot tub, pool and sauna is located. The hot tub was soothing, the pool refreshing, all spotless. We opted to indulge in our dessert back in our room later and the decadent chocolate dessert totally completed the evening. Breakfast was equally satisfying the following morning, with French Toast as thick as you could want, complimented with locally made maple syrup. Fresh muffins, fruit and other breakfast treats also available. Following our checkout, we were scheduled to visit another local catering site/restaurant. We didn't even bother. Scribner Hollow has all were were looking for. Perfect location (facing Hunter Mountain), outstanding food and wine, and service that we found no fault in. The owners could not have been more accomodating, and are in fact like people we've known for years. Our reception planning has been a breeze, and exciting. We look forward to posting another review after 10/08. Final word, if you are expecting the Ritz Carlton, high class theater, high price boutiques, then stay in the city. If you can't stand to be without Wifi and the thought of occasional weak cell reception scares you to death, then the Mountains are not for you. This is the COUNTRY after all. If you are a skier, or looking for a relaxing respite where you can enjoy all that NY state has to offer in the way of enjoying the great outdoors or poking around quaint shops and historic locations, all the while enjoying local ambience and fine dining, then select Scribner. Be prepared to enjoy the company you are with, let your palate be indulged, and you shouldn't be disappointed.

A Honeymoon to remember...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/18/07
We came to Scribner Hollow for our honeymoon, not knowing anything about the area but now we can not wait to return to Scribner Hollow for our first anniversary! The staff was so friendly, (they made us feel like family!!!) the food - amazing - fresh and a new special everyday, the room was clean, comfortable and romantic. If you are a wine lover, you need to check out the extensive wine list!!! The staff took time to assist us with local attractions and directions to help make our honeymoon unforgetable. We did alot of research for our honeymoon the price is very competitive for all the amenities that they offer. Everything about this vacation was wonderful. I could never have asked for a better experience.

BIT PRICEY...BUT EXCELLENT STAY!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/25/07
just returned from our trip to scribner hollow in 9/20-9/22..I must say the trip was wonderful and the people at the lodge were very freindly. we stayed in the penthouse at the lodge which was outdated but was very cozy and clean for me and my wife. We were celebrating our 10th annaversary that weekend so i wanted it to be special for me and my wife. the staff was great especially a woman named ELLEN. the dvd in our room didn't work and ellen tried to bring up another one but that was no good either. ellen went out of her way and brought one in from her own home so we could enjoy the movies we brought. within 15 min anything we wanted wood for the fireplace, directions, site seeing, they were more then happy to help us. We even got help from the staff to find us a cathlic church so me and my wife could renew our vows to each other that was very special. being city slickers like us we thought the food was ok nothing special but good. the wine list was great!. we ate at the BLACK DIAMONDS Resteruant just down the road the next night and it was unreal...this is the place to eat up here no where else trust me...all and all it was a great trip and would probably come again...PS...there is no elevators at the scribner so get ready to lug your own luggage 2 flights of stairs coming and going.... that was not fun due to no staff was around to help us. FOR 400+ a night THEY SHOULD have staff there to help the customers check in. If your looking for a romantic stay in the mountains looking out at hunter mountain with a raging fire going on this is the place.

They must be reading the reviews...
By Gregory, 02/26/07
I spent last weekend (2/17-2/18/07) at the Scribner Hollow Lodge with my family, including 3 young children, and we had an excellent experience. Scribner must have been aware of people's past complaints and decided to turn things around. We couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of the staff, especially in the dining room, where the gentleman who seated us and took our orders (he told us he was the manager) couldn't have been more courteous and attentive to our wishes. The food, by the way, at every meal was top-notch. The room we stayed in was the "Alpine II", which is a loft-style room with beds upstairs and a living area with fireplace downstairs. The furnishings are a bit meager, and a "leather" side-chair in the room had a broken spring in it, but these things can be forgiven. Perhaps as they have improved the service, they willupgrade the rooms as well. The beds were at least clean and comfortable, and there was plenty of wood supplied for the fire, which my children really enjoyed sitting in front of after a day of skiing. By the way, that's indeed what you'll be doing most of the time when you stay at the Lodge, as it looks directly at the slopes of Hunter Mt., and makes a quick trip of getting to the hill and back to your room. My children also loved the heated "grotto" poll which, granted, seems a bit out of the past with it's plaster stalactites and plastic jungle plants, but they didn't care. It was warm, clean, and it had a fun waterfall/slide, so that's all that mattered. All in all, it was indeed pricey, but our enjoyable experience in the mountains at this lodge certainly made the price seem more worthwhile. I would return there if I ever go back to Hunter with my family. Definitely.
