Dunes Inn & Suites, Tybee Island

A group of us (20) decided to spend the weekend at Tybee. We all wanted to be at the same hotel, so we chose the Dunes since they had enough empty rooms.. should have been the first clue...Upon entering our room late on Friday, I had to kill a huge roach on the wall. I called the front desk to ask for another room, was told these roaches are the palmetto bug and there is nothing to stop them from flying into the room, but if they are the small ones he would be worried. He said he had no other rooms available until the next day. Needless to say, I slept with the light on. The next morning about 10 I went to the pool leaving my boyfriend behind to get dressed and the maid came to clean. She opened the door with out knocking. Luckily my boyfried was dressed. She said she would come back later. Well at 3 oclock that day we went back to the room and she had not returned to clean and bring fresh linens. I called the front desk and was told the maids left for the day..sorry..I could come downstairs and get some clean towels if "I WANTED TOO."Oh, and let me add this as well..A coffee pot is in the room but if you want coffee and cups you have to go get them from the desk. The free continental breakfast consists of donuts, coffee and there version of orange juice is the cheap powered orange flavored mix. I discussed my unhappiness with the owner and was told..nothing she can do about roaches...that the maid surely didn't walk in on us before knocking, but if she did she would have a talk because she didn't understand english well. I asked for a discount on the rates since we didn't feel we got our money's worth, she said..sorry but the maid did come to clean but my boyfriend was still in the room at that time. She was not interested in what I had to say, told me she had her kids waiting in the car. I am glad I put this on my credit card. I will dispute this. The hundred dollar a night price should not include roaches.

There are two sections (buildings) that make up this hotel. The "front building" is newer, cleaner and all around better. The "rear building" is older and prehaps not as well taken care of. However I would recommend this hotel, due to it's proxmity to the beach and helpfullness of the staff.

I had already booked our reservation and then started reading the reviews and was so panicky after reading some of the comments. We arrived to find a staff that was friendly and very helpful. When we got to our room and opened the door, I was pleasantly surprised to find everything new and clean. The room was lovely, new carpet, spreads, curtains. The bathroom was spotless and things could not have gone better. Our bed was comfy and there was no noise keeping us awake. The pool was clean and refreshing as well and the walk to the beach was short. We were able to catch a tour bus into Savannah to spend a day with no problems. I would have no problem staying at the Dunes again!

We stay at the Dunes every year in November and the staff is always excellent. We get the same room every year just by requesting it when we make our reservations. We've stayed at other places on the island but since finding the Dunes(after horrible experiences at other places) we wouldn't go any place else.

we were told our room would be ready at 1200pm. Upon ariving at 1200pm it wasnt ready the last guest had not left yet. So we waited at the pool what a joke. It was full of drunks and had an odor. After waiting two hours we ask the clerk was our room ready.she said im sorry we forgot about you.we finally got in our room which we were told it was a suite. There was nothing sweet about it. The walls were dirty it smelled very bad even opening the doors did not help.the beds were smelly and worn down the carpets were stained. The lighting fixture covers were about to fall down.a big waste of 160.00. It looks good on the internet site it looks good on the outside its a dump on the inside.i would have rather slept on the beach. Take my advice find somewhere else its not worth the money.

Upon arrival at the Dunes Inn, there was no parking on our side of the motel and there was no parking on the other side of the motel, either. The desk clerk was very helpful in telling me that she would ring our room when a parking space became available. We parked down the street and she never called. After unloading 4 days worth of clothing etc. from down the block later in the evening, one of the kids decided to take a shower. NOT. The shower did not work at all and spit brown water out on him. THEN, one of the adults tried to (well, did) use the toilet and it would not flush. It overflowed all the way out into the room, and under the bed. The bags were soaked and the clothes were soaked. I called the desk and she said no one should be in our room and she would be right up. There had been a mistake. She came up (waddled up) and then said, "Oh, yeah you are the one who couldn't find a parking place, I meant to call you earlier, Someone didn't list this room as being occupied, but I will take care of that and I will send someone up with the wet/dry vac to get up the mess. This was at 8 pm. Well, the wet/dry vac showed up with an elderly operator at approximately 1130 that night. He did not know how to operate the wet/dry vac. So, being that our room REALLY smelled like urine now, I helped him. I called the front desk and requested another room afterwards. She said there were no rooms available, but she would have one available in the morning. The next morning after going down for the FREE BREAKFAST of powdered sugar donuts and coffee, I requested the new room. She said the Manager would have to call me. The manager never called and that night I went back to the front office to check out and hopefully change motels. The Manager then came in and with broken (crushed) English said that she would have to keep my deposit because we had used all the towels in the room to dry the floor, and we should have turned the water off at the toilet when it started to overflow. Fortunately, I had used my CHASE VISA and they were more than happy to deny payment. I haven't received any subpoenas yet for this country or theirs in reference to this incident. BEWARE!!!!

This is a great place to stay for any occasion, from St. Patricks Day celebration to a little family get away. My husband and I stay here every year on St. Paddy's day and we always bring a group of friends with us. We have stayed in the same hotel every year and sometimes in the very same room. We have never found any reason to change hotles. The people here are great, one year our phone did not work, the clerk came to our room on his break and fixed the phone very quickly. They are always great at giving suggestions on the hot thing to do or place to go for whatever occasion. Last summer we took are two young boys there for a little get away before the first day of school. They had a blast!!!! The staff was just as helpful for finding family events as they were for telling us the best places to have a drink on St. Paddy's. They cater to all.
