Three strikes your out
By ,
We have stayed at The Amsterdam Manor 3 times. The first time was in '04, accommodations were great, the people that worked there were nice and fun. We liked Aruba and the Amsterdam Manor so much that we returned in '08 for our wedding; Unfortunately our third trip with another couple would not be so nice. Upon arrival our friends were welcomed by Illis with "we have bad news". (Apparently the remodeling project had left no available rooms for guests who confirmed (and paid) for accommodations MONTHS earlier). Our friends were shipped-off to another hotel miles away for the night. This really caused a problem as we were without a car. We, on the other hand got thrown into that dreaded "C" block that has a major air conditioning and wet room problem!! I was under the impression we would receive a room upgrade because of our loyalty, but Illis told me "no, there are no rooms available, that’s for people who stay 5 times or more". Really? That’s not true and certainly not good customer service. The "C" block rooms have MAJOR problems, don't stay there! All the rooms in that block are set for sub zero. We were told the air conditioners were new and pretty much were threatened not to touch the controllers. We got stuck in "C3". It was so cold and wet in there, the ceiling rained on us and all of the counter tops were soaking wet. The sheets were wet. The bathroom had one inch of water on the floor. I thought they had hosed it down. I even dried it up when we first came into the room only to have it wet again after just a few hours. The smell of mildew was disgusting. Water consistently dripped on you if you sat on the toilet. All the towels, toilet paper etc. were soaking wet. All of our clothing got wet from the moisture, we stuck to them. I slept in a sweatshirt and a robe, 2 blankets with a comforter on, and still froze. After spending the night in that dreaded room, I pretty much demanded a change, again I was told "no, nothing available". We ended up asking to speak to the manager, and Jenny (the Ops manager) met us at the room. We pointed out the mold on the lamps, she said she knew about it and they were replacing them. I guess they dont know that mold can be a health issue. I believe the entire staff is aware of the problems with that room, and the entire building as well. Jenny was there to shut us up, and moving us to another sub-zero room was her solution. We were moved to "C8", but no upgrade. Again the room was set to sub-zero, and I couldn't get them to move us for anything. "C8" was drier than the other room but still unacceptable. By now I was sick, and had to spend the remainder of my vacation in that awful accommodation. Note: I sent a letter to the GM, who was to respond "shortly", its been almost a month. If you want to see more reviews, check out tripadvisor. I am not alone.

Great family trip
Last may 2008, my wife my 2 year s old baby and me spent 4 days in Amsterdam The peple from Amsterdam Hotel is very kind and warming we felt ourselves like home. Room was perfecfor a small family got everything clean to cook and the beach is nice and close. May this year we are coming back. The only "bad thing" maybe the restaurant but not a big deal food is good but not the greatest. Good excuse to go out for dinner. I cant remember the name of one guy in the res but in general they were all very kind so I have no complaints.

No way!
By ,
Horrible!! Can I please preface this by saying that I am not one of those people who is difficult to please?! But I booked a 1 bedroom suite with Amsterdam Manor back in December. I arrived last Wednesday 3/26 to have them tell me that they were overbooked, I mean can they not count how many rooms they have in comparison to how many guests they book? The woman at the desk told me that a wedding party that was there decided that they wanted to stay longer so myself and 3 other guests lost their rooms. They told me that they booked me a room at La Cabana next door. I said okay, is it still a 1 bedroom suite with an ocean view and king size bed like I booked here. I was told no that it was in the back of the building and not a suite. This did not make me happy at all because I had booked, paid for, and gotten confirmation from Monique in the reservations department that my reservation was confirmed. After expressing my displeasure with them for about 45 minutes and requesting to speak to a manager (none were available) they said they could put me at the Manchebo. When I got to the Manchebo I was put into a “garden view” room with 2 double beds. I then told Manchebo the situation and they were great! And put me into a ocean view room with a king size bed. Please read my review of the Manchebo, they were awesome.

Honeymooners
By ,
My husband and I had the best time ever. Amsterdam Manor made us feel at home. We celebrated our honeymoon in 2006 and can't wait to return in 2011. I would highly recommend staying there.

Aruba was PARADISE... however...
By ,
My husband and I stayed at Amsterdam Manor with another couple in August 2007. It was a nice hotel with nicely refurbished rooms, beautiful architecture, a FLAWLESS beach across the street and enjoyable food and drink at Mango's and Passions restaurants. However - no offense to our comrades from Europe (I hold a very lucrative position at a company with headquarters in Switzerland so I have the utmost respect/admiration for my European Colleagues) - BUT some of the staff members seemed to only cater to their European - namely Dutch, patrons. We had several 'tense exchanges' with Illis, a gentleman at the front desk and had a very bad experience at check out with this same gentleman and Monique at the front desk. We experienced rudeness, disrespect and blatant disregard for our needs from these staff members. We were made to feel as if we were being a nuisiance when we wanted simple answers.. to simple questions... (i.e., to confirm the departure time for our airport shuttle!!) The sad irony is that Illis and Monique are of the same ethnic background as myself, my husband and the other couple. My husband, myself and the other couple are highly educated and high-earning professionals who just wanted to spend a peaceful vacation at a beautiful resort. We never expected such rude treatment from staff members who incidentally, looked like they could be our relatives!!!!!! For the record, I also witnessed the same treatment and rude attitude directed towards another guest, of a different ethnicity... but also from the United States... To their defense, Sasha, Janine, Elaine (shop attendant), the staff at Mangos, and the housekeeping staff were wonderful, cordial and helpful throughout. All of our exchanges were pleasant. However, the others were noticeably dismissive and seemed agitated at the simplest questions/requests. I felt EXTREMELY disappointed and guilty for subjecting my friends to such treatment, as I was the one who picked the Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort for our trip. I loved Aruba and my husband and I are planning a trip this Spring. However, we will NEVER stay at the Amersterdam Manor Beach Resort again.

Feeling King for some weeks
By ,
Te people from Amsterdam Manor are very helpful and polite and are at your service 24 hours/day. The beach is one of the best places to be. If you want to feel a King for 1 week of a few weeks, this is just the way to do it: buy a stay at Amsterdam Manor hotel. Family Blommaert/Terpstra Maastricht, Netherlands

Great time but bad odor
By ,
We just came back we had a great time the hotel is clean and the staff was very friendly..The only thing was they have a water plant behind the hotel and the stink was unbearable we had to go further down on the beach everyday so beware ask if they fixed the problem they are having with the bad smell before you book..

waiting to go back!
By ,
The first night there, the management did not have our room available, so they put us into a different room, and the floor was all wet from the humidity. After we got our booked room, we had a great time! The electricity would have surges, and the television stations seemed to suddenly go off and on the air.

nice and clean
By ,
This hotel is a little off the beaten path, and so is quiet and peaceful, but still right across the street from the beach. The location is the best part about this hotel. The wait and housekeeping staff were very effecient and friendly, but the front desk staff were just ok. Our room was very clean and nicely appointed, but we could never get the air conditioning to be quite cold enough. The hot water took a very long time to get warm. The hotel restaurant was very good. Overall, we chose this hotel because to us, it was the nicest looking one that was in our price range. We were not disappointed, given that. It's really not fair to compare it with the other really expensive hotels on the island. Although it is not really within a comfortable walking distance to downtown (probably a 45 minute walk), the bus runs right in front of the hotel and only costs about a dollar each way. Also, there is a large casino only about a 10 minute walk away. The beach was really nice with plenty of lounge chairs, cabanas, and a beach bar. The beach was clean and the water was nice. We highly recommend taking a tour of the island, as we quite enjoyed seing the rest of the island.
