Luxor Motel...Yes Motel

Smoking is allowed in the Luxor casino and bars.
This was my first visit to Las Vegas. I stayed at the Luxor for free because I was a guest. I figured every hotel on the strip would be top notch because of all the money flowing. The Luxor is bottom notch. While there may be great rooms in the Luxor, my hotel room was worse than a room at an average Motel 6 (no exaggeration).
I don't think the money men behind this hotel cared about repeat business or respected the average person who would be staying.
Based on my room the hotel couldn't have been much when it first opened. The furnishings were sparse, cheap, and tacky. Everything in the room and bathroom
was dark and earth-tone in color.
The only amenity was an ironing board and an iron with with some type of adhesive melted on the face. The only complimentary hygiene products in the bathroom were shampoo/conditioner blend, lotion, and soap.
The room had very slow internet (internet is not an amenity). I did an online speed test, and it registered at 512Kb/second. The modem was located in the wardrobe, and you connected to it with a 20 foot CAT V cable that you also pulled out of the wardrobe. This gives you flexibility on where you can use your laptop but...come on.
The TV was not flat screen. The cable was not digital, so you couldn't tell what station you were watching.
The lighting was horrible. The main lights were circular, 6 inches in diameter, halogens. They are directional meaning they focus light down. You would expect these lights under your cupboards above your counter.
The carpet and furniture was stained badly, the drapes wouldn't close all the way, the door let in a lot of sound from the hallway, the ventilation in the room was bad (the first night it smelled smokey in the bathroom), the AC was extremely old and had to be maxed to keep the room cool (it didn't pull air from outside).
The buffet food was very good. The buffet decorum was bad as were the lines. The casino and bars were good (except for the smoking and a lot of the dealers lacked personality). Finally, the food court was good except for Starbucks. Starbucks seems to think it's ok to charge $3.00 for a small coffee (which wasn't hot).
