11 reviews for Hotel Milano, San Francisco
A realistic review by a business traveler.
By Jeremy, 05/09/06
I am in the entertainment industry, and haunt hotels at least 4-5 days per week. When I visit accounts in the SF area, I generally will stay inside the city and cab it so I do not have to be stressed with traffic. A friend suggested the Milano, and for the most part, it is okay. The room and decor is pretty modern. The beds and linens are not that great, and you only have a refrigerator and a small cheap-o TV. Honestly, the bathroom is the coolest part of the room - being mostly large and fancy. Out of the four times I have stayed here, the carpets and walls are a bit dealt with, but, by in large, clean. Tonight, this room is very clean and the best I have had here, except for facing the street w/ construction. There has been ongoing construction work (which they do not tell you about during reservation) and today has been loud. Wireless Internet works pretty quick, most of the time. The gym is a joke with outdated gear, but – it’s a heart rate raiser and that’s all that matters. Overall, it’s an okay place to hang. The hotel boasts a cool bar in the lobby – a very nice, but sometimes clueless reception staff, and it’s a short walking distance to all of the cool shops and sites. Valet parking = return of your car could take up to 40 minutes!! Convenience and acceptable cleanliness is the only reason I stay here, however, always on the lookout for another hotel as this place has not sold me as a long-term customer.

Junior Suite???
By AriadneE, 05/05/06
Our room was a plain old hotel room, not a "junior suite" as advertised. It was extremely average, and for the money in SF, stay somewhere else.

There is nothing like a good hotel pool
By Zachary P, 09/18/05
Growing up, my little brother was always looking for the best pool he could find. Now, a veteran of business travel, I've come to appreciate a good pool and hot tub. To others who feel the same, I'd like to recommend the Hotel Milano.

Not a place to stay with a family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/28/05
The hotel's location is great, if you want to travel to different areas of San Francisco, with the Cable car turntable and BART, very close by. But to set things straight, there is NO service, and the bath rooms are the pits, with cheep curtain rails that fell down when I accedentally leaned on the curtain! Beware of house keeping throwing things away, without asking too. I had a bunch a receipts and commemerative cup that I had purposely left on the table, thrown away! Basically, things not left in trash cans should not be messed with, unless specifically told to. If you're only there for business, and for a short time, the lack to service may be a positive factor of this hotel.

Don't know why this hotel is 3 star rated, should be at least 4 stars
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/05
Milano was EXCELLENT for those in the corporate business looking to impress clients. They offered internet access, which is a great plus, and the service was excellent. I've read a few of the reviews here complaining about the service...sorry to here about your experiences (maybe it was YOU???? hmmmm...) but the service was outstanding. The place could use a bit of upgrading, it's got a euro-style...I prefer a more modern place. All inn all, we've received great service for the past 5 years using Milano. Clients have even requested for meetings to be held there, permanentaly! The sushi bar was one of our favorites, but heard the restaurant would be moving and replaced by all American cuisine (why? don't know).

Loved the service, but the location wasn't what we were looking for
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/05
We thought we'd have a great view of the city, but being downtown (not Nob Hill where there are better sights)..we didn't get to see much unless we went to Fisherman's Wharf or Chinatown. There is a lot of shopping to do though, around the hotel are great boutiques and antique shops. Perfect for souvenier shopping. The staff were excellent and helpful...just had a problem with maid service, never enough towels and didn't turn over the bed...but other than that, great place.

Euro-style...loved it!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/05
May be on the bottom of the hill, but inside was definitely "wow" on the eyes! Cable car is right around the corner, so we used it often to either get to Nob Hill or to the ferry tours. The room service was great but the valet was a bit slow with getting our car...I'd advise for you to call about 20 minutes in advance, but overall, this was a great place to stay!

Hotel Milano is tastefully upscale
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/20/05
This is the third time staying at Hotel Milano. The best location for downtown shoppers. Just a cable car away from all of the major attactions, like Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. Cable car also takes you to ferry that goes on tours to Golden Gate, Sausalito, Alcatraz..etc. Milano has a wonderful and informative staff. Will always be one of my favorites!

The desk clerk was more interested in text messaging friends than checking us in.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/05/05
Despite all of the reviewers who said they had terrible service... we opted to stay at Milano because of its decor and location. However the restaurant was closed, they made us pay for wireless internet service, there was only 1 robe in the room, and no one even offered to help us get our bags from the curb to our room. And that was just 5 minutes after checking in! The next day, we returned mid-afternoon after some shopping, to find all of our towels and robes gone, but the rest of the room uncleaned. We called down to have the car brought around (they said to give them 20 minutes heads-up) and to call us when it was ready. 40 minutes later we went down to check on it because they never called. It seems that they also brought the wrong car: it was not ours. At 9 on Sunday morning, when most romantic couples are still in eachother's arms, sleeping in... we were packing to leave a little early. My guy went down to personally fetch the car this time, and I was standing in the middle of the room, dressing. With a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door, housekeeping knocked and immediately entered. Nice. It was the perfectly terrible ending to the worst service experience I've ever had the misfortune to take part in.
