Enjoyed the Inn
By ,
Had my doubts about the selection of this Inn for our group based on some reviews I saw and none done recently, but was very pleasantly surprised at the Inn decor, room comfort, the staff cordiality and helpfulness and the location in Downtown area with easy transportation. The evening wine and cheese and later in the evening the Sherry nitecap in the Library were excellent for our group to have a comfortable location to get together to talk about the past year and plan for next year's "reunion". If I returned to Charleston with this group, I would most certainly consider staying at the Anchorage Inn again, but I would request that I not be given Rm 10 since a couple in our group found in quite small for 2 people compared to other rooms.

Not What We Expected
By ,
Pros- *got the cheapest deal around for the time we stayed *great location, within walking distance to most everything *nice hot bath *most comfortable bed ever Cons- *only basic (12) channels on the cable *lots of TLC needed and dusting *room was near lobby and you can hear drawers opening, people talking, etc, during the night *internet connection in awkward spot, hard to access, had to have the device hanging beside the bed to reach,no room on end table for laptop *breakfast room isn't very comfortable, very bright lights, tables close to each other *breakfast wasn't very good (had waffles that wouldn't toast well and a dry muffin)

Excellent in a creepy way
By ,
Great location, near the shore and market. Just a short walk to just about any location in downtown. Our room had no window, but it added to the creepy, haunting, ghostly effect of Charleston. Excellent service, wine and cheese in the afternoon, Brandy at night. We will go back here again.

Felt like a nuisance
By ,
The only thing that is good about this place is the location. The scenery around Anchorage Inn is breath taking. Other than that, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Upon arrival, we were not even greeted. Rather, the reception person was on the phone speaking with an attitude to the customer. She hung up the phone and said that she "was not babysitting adults today". When she finally asked what I needed, I checked in the the hotel with no information about their ammenities or surrounding tourist attractions. The room was nice except for it's paper thin walls. I was awoken on a Sunday morning at 7:00am by the downstairs visitors talking in a regular tone (i.e. they were not yelling). Breakfast was a disgrace. No Coffee!!! Who doesn't have coffee in the mornings????? When we asked someone to replace the items that were missing (i.e. coffee, bagels, utensils, etc.), we were met with more attitude and non-responsive feedback. The only thing that this place has going for them is the location. Unfortunately, they rely on that solely too much and guests are left unsatisfied.

Classical elegance
By ,
I loved the Victorian decor of the Inn and the plush design of the interior. The amenities are fabulous and the location was perfect for visiting downtown shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Charming little hotel
By ,
We had a great stay at this hotel. The layout of the rooms - centered around an interior courtyard - is unlike anything else I have ever seen. The staff were extremely courteous as well.

Home away from home
By ,
The first thing you notice is the proximity to everything you will want to do. When you enter the foyer you notice that the attendant/concierge doesn't have an office, they are situated in the middle of all the rooms, ready to make your stay start with a smile. The rooms were so clean and well furnished. I felt like I had stepped back in time. The continental breakfast is no different than other places, but the atmosphere adds something different to it. I continue to have a hard time getting back into this little treasure; as they are constantly booked in advance. Definitely somewhere you will enjoy and it provides all the amenities that the higher priced B&B's offer. The Waterfront Park is less than 100 ft to your left as you leave the place; and beyond the park is the expansive Charleston Harbor with all of its history and beauty. Just a few blocks is the Market area; the other direction, just a few blocks is the historic Battery and Rainbow Row. Here, no matter the time of day or night, you sink back into history and imagine a time before we were swallowed up by our hurry up and wait lifestyle. Here the breeze blows sweeter, the pace slows and you can take a look at life as it was years ago while you enjoy the quiet and tranquility that is the Anchorage Inn.

another place, another time
By ,
This authentic English Inn is a step back into another place and time. You are made to feel like you are the king and queen, anything you ask for-you receive. The decor is totally in line with the history of the inn. The inn symbolizes what the old Charleston must have been like at the turn of the century. You are taken out of your hectic world and time travel to a more relaxing experience. It is truly a most romantic adventure with every whim being catered to. Grace and beauty and old world charm await you.
