Northwood Inn & Suites, Minocqua

Took a mini-vacation and found this little jewl. Great location and the price didn't leave us feeling raped by the local tourism. Owners were very helpful with recommendations for eating and fun. Overall we had a pleasent stay. For those with negative reviews - maybe YOU were part of the problem...I found the motel to be clean and the staff very courteous to my family’s needs. This place has a very laid-back feel – the Hilton it is not, but if you are looking for a good motel that has atmosphere, clean, and of good value then this is a great choice.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone! I was in the area for a wedding, and was unfortunate enough to stay here for two nights because everything was booked! First, the owners were rude and not very helpful! After the first night, I complained to the owner about the mattresses being too uncomfortable, and she offered me a refund for the following night that I had already paid for. This was fine with me, but they demanded we check-out within 20 minutes, which was impossible since I was with a 70 year old and a four year old, our stuff was all unpacked, and we were not ready to go by any means. I asked if they could please give us sometime to get really, and that I would pay anything extra. They were not very accomodating, and they told us we had to be out in 20 minutes. I decided to stay since we had no other option, and they called within the 20 minutes to very rudely tell us that the maid needed to clean the room. As I opened the door to let the maid in, a big burly guy was at my front door to get ready to escort us out! I was a little confused since I never told them I was leaving for sure. The guy very rudely demanded for us to leave because they needed to get the room ready. I explained to him that we never told anyone we were leaving and that we were staying. Needless to say, I should have made every effort to leave within the 20 minutes! After being so rudely treated by the owners, I still had to pay full price for the two nights! The room smelled awful! It was over priced! The mattresses and box springs were disgustingly stained! The mattresses were as hard as rocks! I felt as if I was sleeping on the floor, and after driving more than seven hours, I was not very happy! This was overall, the worst experience of my life!

This is well-kept and clean place to stay. We stayed in one of their themed rooms, which had a nice rustic feel to it. The owners seem to take good care of the place. Great location and a good value.

The location is great, hotel is recently non-smoking and has air freshners in the hallway that choked me. The water is very iron-rich and stunk to high heaven. We stayed for a wedding with a couple of friends - they promise a quiet atmosphere on their website, and apparently they don't tell their guests that they will yell at them to provide it. Would not return.

The entire staff was very nice and "up-northy". Simple, clean and great theme rooms. Would be perfect if it had a pool. Gave us tips on sights and the best places to eat.
