Great price and nice place for what it is
By d, 12/18/09
when ever we to to the casino we stay here. the location is good compared to all other hotels in the area and the rooms arent bad.... its no Hyatt or radison and you;ll be disapointed if you compare it to them. but for under $50 for a pace to sleep. no problems with smoke or noise that ive ran into, the beds are comfortable bing your own bathroom supplys only soap and a small amount of hampoo is provided. the FREE breakfast is great make your own waffles, cereal, muffinsm danshs, bagels, where most hotels you have to pay or its not offered if our not into that every room even offers a fridge and micro wave so you cn bring your leftover back to eat later. or drinks and keep them cold. Again if your looking for a high starhotel keep looking if your just lookign for a comfy place to sleep after a long day you really cant beat the price.

PLEASANTLY SURPRISE
By Eva, 12/12/09
We chose to stay at the Super 8 because we were on a budget and they had one of the better rates. We weren't sure what to expect because of the mix reviews we read online. However, they must have changed something because everything was clean and felt great. The boy at the front desk who checked us in was very polite. We requested extra pillows and towels and they were brought to us immediately. The room were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was more than we ever expect for a free breakfast. We really enjoyed the waffles. It felt nice returning to the hotel after our long day at the casino. We definitely feel like it was worth the price and will be returning on our next visit into the area.

Never again!
By Christine, 10/06/09
In planning our first visit to the Mystic Seaport Museum, we were unable to find a room in our price range in Mystic - everything was booked. So we settled on this hotel. We had stayed at the Super 8 in Sturbridge, MA before, and it was fine, so we weren't expecting any problems here. We stayed there on Saturday, October 3, checked out on Sunday, October 4. The first problem was finding the place. It was dark when we got there, and their sign on the side of the highway was not lit. And the way the building is situated, from the direction we were coming from, the sign on it was impossible to see. We had to loop around several times before I finally spotted the place. There was no problem with check-in. The room was okay, nothing fancy, but what do you expect from an economy hotel such as this one? And the free WiFi did work as advertised, unlike the Super 8 in Sturbridge. Problem #1 was the shower head. It was one of those that you can detach and use as a hand-held one. This would have been great, except that the clamp that attached it to make it hands-free was broken. So taking showers was a bit of a pain. Problem #2 was the deal-breaker, and the reason we'll never stay at this place again. My husband had gone to bed shortly after we checked in. I stayed up later, working on my laptop, with only the light of the computer and the TV...all the lamps in the room were too bright and not conducive to sleeping. A few hours later, I got tired, shut down the computer, and got into bed. The next morning, I got up and was horrified to see a brown stain on the bottom sheet on my side of the bed that looked like POOP! I know for a FACT that I didn't cause it to be there. If I hadn't gone to bed in the dark the night before, I would have seen it beforehand, and refused to sleep on it. I was so grossed out, I ran to the bathroom and threw up. This could have ruined our day at Mystic Seaport, I was that nauseous. We decided not to say anything, though, we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. And I doubt they would have done anything, anyway, the damage had already been done. I figured that the best things we could do was speak with our wallets and not return to this place, and write reviews like this one, to encourage others to stay away.

WORST PLACE I'VE EVER STAYED AT
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/17/09
There was nothing to like about this place! The staff was rude. The lobby was dirty. I had a none smoking room yet the hallway reeked of smoke. There were cigarette butts in the stairwell. Overall the place was dirty and smelled.

You need friendlier staff!!
By julie, 05/01/09
First off, I woke up nice and early to make it to the continental breakfast and I went downstairs, made up what I wanted to eat and sat down with my husband to eat, There were two asian people, one lady and one man and the lady was talking to him and she was shouting! She was not using an indoor voice and that is not what I wanted to hear early in the morning. I kindly asked if she could lower her voice and she just continued being loud. It was very unenjoyable. Next, there was no ornage juice left so my husband asked the front desk girl if she had any left, and before he could even finish his sentence she very rudely interrupted and said "I DONT KNOW" and she went out of the dining area. My husband then walked out to see if she went to look and she said (rudely again) "I'LL HAVE TO GO LOOK" so she did, and she didnt even come back to let us know, my husband had to go back out to her for her to say there wasn't any. And she didnt even apologize for anything. I wish that I knew her name but this was on May 1, 2009 at about 9 in the morning. I personally didn't think that any of the staff that I encountered was very pleasant, and I especially didn't want to wake up to those asians talking so loudly. I'm not being racist, but I wanted to enjoy my breakfast in peace and I ended up taking it upstairs to have a little more quiet. The rooms weren't very clean either. There was a hole in the wall behind the door. Underneath the beds were discusting. There were crumbs and pieces of other things. I was just gross. Housekeeping could clean a little better. The room rate went up $15 in one day. I stayed Thursday to Friday, and I figured I would stay another night at the same rate because I thought weekend rates would only be on Saturday and Sunday. But besides that, I only have one more thing. When I checked in on Thursday night, the man that was working was like a grumpy old man. I was talking to him and I had my 9 month old niece with me and she was waving hello and he never even looked at either one of us, he just checked me in and that was it. No "Thank You" or "Enjoy your stay" NOTHING. I really don't know if I would choose this hotel again. I know that its only one customer you're losing so I'm sure this probably doesn't mean anything, but you could at least take it into consideration and have you're employees have better hospitality or I'm sure it will be more than just me complaining. Thank you so much for having this survey up here! I really appreciate it because there were just a few things that were really bothering me that I wanted to get out. Ps, I don't really think that it was worth paying another $85.00 for.

I'll Never Be Back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/23/06
First and foremost, I will never stay at a Super 8 Motel again. I would gladly pay more money for a better hotel/motel next time instead of trying to save a buck. When I first got in, the room appeared clean, smelled fine, and looked neat. As time went on, I noticed more and more of the corners the cleaning staff liked to cut. The bathroom ceiling was rusty, the rings that held the shower curtain up were moldy, the recliner in the room was torn apart all over the arms and seat and sewn back together with random multicolored threads, hair all over the bathroom floor, loud guests next door who were never told to settle down even though it was night time, my room was freezing all night long, the bed linens were stiff and scratchy, the fan in the bathroom was ridiculously loud, I was woken up by some loud Spanish man yelling outside my door in the middle of the night (God only knows who that was), no movie channels on the tv...(barely any channels at all), staff members were one of two things... they were either 1) unable to communicate with me because they didn't speak English, or 2) were completely uninterested in serving me. (he really only wanted to charge my credit card and be done with me) The room was far less than what I had expected. I read these reviews, even the negative ones, and figured people just had a chip on their shoulder, so I tried it out, because it was the cheapest in the area. This night was terrible. The staff was as friendly as a rock, and I would be MUCH happier in another hotel next time I am in Groton. Actually, I was....I checked out and stayed my second night at the Holiday Inn in New London, which was FAR nicer, and the staff was excellent and the room was gorgeous...and the housekeeping staff actually did their job. So, what's my advice to you if you are thinking about staying at this Super 8 Motel? RUN AWAY!

ROACHES
By Arlene, 11/06/06
I stayed at the SUper 8 hotel in Groton, Connecticut and discovered three roaches in my bathroom at 2:00 am.....I complained to the desk attendant who sai dthey would take money off my bill. Didn't happen. I returned hom eand called the manager who said he would call me back. Didn't happen. The manager has all of my phone numbers and I have made 4 attempts to reach someone but to no avail. I am going to dispute the charge on my credit cartd because that was just absolutely disgusting to have roaches in the bathroom at a supposedly clean, decent establishment. In addition, the management is and was uncooperative.

Okay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/06
I stayed at the Super 8 for 2 weeks while my house was being built. The staff was ok except for one really cranky guy who asked us everything short of a urine sample to get an extra copy to a key. the neighborhoos did not feel too safe and the breakfast room was entirely too small. Our keys never worked either, the shower had a large crack in it and the water was yellow. I would stay there again only if it was the last resort. PS: There were sketchy loiterers around every night.
