7 reviews for 1857 Florida House Inn, Amelia Island
such a wonderful place
By Angel, 03/28/09
i loved my stay at the FLORIDA HOUSE INN! most places are just chain hotels and just looking at or for a credit card, these owners of this Inn are true down to earth people, who give thier heart and try their best to make your stay a good one!! the rooms are so clean and so wonderful, so quaint, I am going to reccomend this beatiful place to everyone! Only thing bad that left us wondering? is why?? is the establishment next door, I think the name is some kind of green lizard? but they are so loud!! we could hardley sleep!! why isnt that stopped at a decent hour!

Couldn't be more wonderful!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/18/09
We had the most wonderful time during our three nite stay! The owners became great friends!! The staff was so inviting and delightful. We used the free scooters for two days and explored so many awesome places. The inhouse bar, The Fuzzy Mermaid, was so great....fireplace, outstanding drinks, entertainment~ We ate breakfast each morning on the covered porch that welcomed us with white, crisp linen and fantastic food. The large rear garden just off the back porch was laced with a beautiful 350 yr old tree, a large flowing mermaid fountain and in the evening the gardens were gently lit with draping lights where we enjoyed a nite cap~ We enjoyed the large white wicker rockers on the front porch as we were met by our horse driven covered carriage ride around a fabulous historical ride. We parked our rental car (free) in the rear parking lot of the inn. Our room couldn't have been more private and enjoyable...fireplace, jacuzzi tub for two, four poster bed which was so comfortable & romantic. We hope to visit again every year. Our room was cleaned each morning as we enjoyed the beaches and the great shops within mintues of leaving the inn. We were so glad that we didn't stay in a large hotel or private rental...the inn was so cozy and offer so much more than we even expected. Included with our room charges was use of the scooters for hours a day (great instruction and staff assistance just off the rear porch), a complete hot breakfast (NOT a contenential), free parking of our rental car right behind the rear gardens, staff available 24 hrs a day, in-house delightful bar, front and back porches to dine and enjoy a drink~ what a fantastic deal, delightful accomodations, great staff and wonderful owners!!!

Don't go to the bar !!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/29/08
We stopped at the bar last year for a drink, so this year we went back. Last year we enjoyed talking to the bartender. On both visits, we were the only people in the bar. We had a martini and a mojito. The bill was $23 before the tip. What a RIP-OFF!!! This year the owner was the bartender. While pleasant, she must get her kicks gouging tourist on the drink prices. My advice...never go near the place.

False Advertising
By Carolyn, 05/30/07
The pictures portrayed on this website are not at all what you get. WE had a deluxe room with a fireplace and jacuzzi tub, fireplace did not work, no hot water in the shower, blankets stunk. We complained several times and it took an email to the owner when we got home to get them to credit us some money off our bill. The only saving grace was Chris the bartender who bent over backwards to try to make our stay enjoyable. I would defintely not recommend staying there and I defintely don't think its worth $270 a night by anyones standards. I also think they are having a hard time trying to decide if they want to be a night club or a b&b. There were parties both nights we were there that went on well past midnight and they staff started the noise up again around 7am so there was no real opportunity for rest or quiet. Steer clear.

What a DUMP
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/06/06
Picutres on internet do not do this B&B justice. The pictures are 100 times better than the actual place. The Florida House practices false advertising as the place is just horrible. Bad service, bad rooms, over priced, absolutly not worth staying. Needs painting, needs cleaning, needs to be completely re-done. Burnt out light bulbs, smelly sheets, dirty dingy bathrooms. Keep looking for a B&B and steer clear of the Florida House. Food service and quality was probably the worst we have ever had anywhere in the world. Would not let my dogs stay here.

Restaurant so-so...
By Link C, 11/01/06
The restaurant used to be GREAT. We would always take visitors there for a Southern "feed". But when it changed ownership several years ago, it lost a lot of its' charm...and quality. There are much better places to eat on the Island. Never stayed at the Inn so I cannot comment on that.

unbelievably bad
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/11/05
I urge anyone even considering staying at the FLA House Inn on Amelia Island to look at alternatives. There are many wonderful B&Bs on this island, but the FLA House is not one of them! The entire building has an odd odor (like maybe it hasn't been cleaned in years), the food is not edible, but is ridiculously overpriced. The service is zero. It's a mystery as to why these folks want to try to run a B&B. They seem to hate people and hate their jobs! There's a little bar next door that is a haven of true island hospitality, with great live music, and that's the only saving grace if you're stuck at the FLA House Inn.
