Don't waste you time and money.
Booked a non-smoking, ground floor room and got second story, "non-smoking" room surrounded by smoking rooms. Non-smoking meant the ashtrays had been turned upside down. The room reeked of smoke, chemicals and an unidentified odor that was unpleasant to say the least.
There is no elevator and the stairway by our room had burned out lights so no way to see any ice or snow on the steps.
When we opened the door into the room, the temperature was hovering somewhere near the 95 degree mark. Toasty compared to roughly 15 degrees outside, but too warm for people and pets. The down side, the heater would not stop or shut down. Tried air-conditioner, but that also did not function. Called the desk and was told that it was unfortunate and to have a nice night. Sat with the door open to try and cool off the room, not a great solution, but did help some.
We had booked this room for a dog show and requested the ground level for convenience in getting dogs in and out. Second story with see through / open stairs is not the same thing and we had problems with both pets and people getting up and down the icy stairway.
Called and asked the on duty employee to move us to a true non-smoking room so the adult with asthma would be able to breath more comfortably. Was told there were no rooms available even though there were rooms with non-smoking signage on the doors and on the main floor when I walked down to talk with the front desk staff. When I arrived at the lobby, staff was there with all the late teen / early twenty something friends having a party. That did not offer a huge vote of confidence.
Called corporate office for Motel 6 and got a call center that told me Guest Services wouldn't be available until Monday. Talked my way up the chain of command and finally got someone that called the motel and came back on the line saying their was no one answering. I explained that from my window and open door I could see the staff and the friends having their party.
Was told that we could move to another motel but would not receive money back for the room we were in. Didn't want to move to new motel, just wanted the correct room that we had guaranteed months earlier.
Called the desk and asked for blankets to block the smoke that was pouring in from the surrounding rooms through the vents and adjoining doors. No blankets. How about any of these: pillow, sheet. towel, wash cloths? No out of all of those claims the front desk.
Another visit by one of my travel companions to the front desk and a request to contact the manager about women having to sleep through the night with the room door open to avoid the horrific smells and heat. The staff explains that the manager is at the casino where she spends a great deal of time and it may take time to contact her.
After about 3 hours of diligent work at trying to get this resolved, the motel agreed to a refund. We stayed for the remainder of the night and left with dogs at about 5:30 AM.
I travel for a living and this is the worst experience I have ever had in any motel. Travelers beware! Even for free, this hotel is not worth the stop.
