Front desk lied

I called on Wednesday, July 8 to book a room for Thursday, July 9. By the next morning I decided to take a different route home and called at 8:00 AM to cancel. The man at the front desk said I needed to give 24 hours notice and was going to charge my credit card. I asked if this was policy for all La Quintas and he said yes. I've stayed in MANY La Quintas and was never told about a 24 hour cancellation policy. I called La Quinta Customer Service and told them what happened. They said there was absolutely no 24 hour policy and that you have until 6:00 PM of the day of arrival to cancel. I have stayed at this motel in Tehachapi before but will never stay there again.
