From the perspective of an American who has made 5 trips to Africa in the last 3 years, the experience of viewing African wildlife up close is so powerful in any of the national parks in Kenya, including Nairobi National Park, that it overwhelms the other aspects of the trip. Everything else is secondary because you are so thrilled to be there. Fig Tree has a superb location, OK accomodations (iffy hot water), capable and very friendly on-site staff, but food that is more oriented to families and groups than couples. I stayed there with my Kenyan brother -in-law, so I had a somewhat unique perspective. I would check out other options for a romantic safari, but expect to return to Fig Tree with family and friends.
I had gone to the Fig tree camp for a picnic with a group I had gone to the mara with. From what I experienced it was AMAZING!
Just like all of the hotels/and lodging areas this was a great place.
We picnic'd near a river and it was wounderful. The bar area was wounderful. And the bathrooms might have not been a 5star bathroom but does it really matter. ITS AFRICA it doesnt have to be 5star.
This was the most incredible place. Everything was wonderful - the food, service, game drives - everything! The setting was gorgeous - beautiful grounds, lush and green. The rooms were clean and very nice. However, one of the best features of the Fig Tree was the staff. They were amazing. So friendly and accommodating. They went out of their way to please. They were also very knowledgeable and would answer endless questions. Oh, and the food was great, too! I can't say enough nice things about the Fig Tree and can't wait to visit again this year!
Very bad start, left for 1hr at landing strip for transport, had to phone (good job we had mobile) when we got there we weren't expected, accomodation basic especially after Governors camp, staff very pleasant, food very basic, game drives very poor, driver very good tried his best, but masai guide very very poor, too interested in his mobile phone, such a pity as location was beautiful. Lodge does not do night time safaris, yet they are advertised, bush breakfast not provided and you are only allowed to shower between the hours of 6 - 8.30 pm, there are far better places in the Masai.
Our visit last week to the Fig Tree Camp was a wonderful experience. The camp facilities are good, the game viewing starts right outside the camp, all transfers etc. were on time with staff assisting where required, and the hot air balloon ride was spectacular.
I can recommend the camp to any person who would like to experience a few aspects of African wildlife while still enjoying some comforts.
Whenever i am in Kenya something just makes me want to go to Fig Tree and yes the fig tree magic worked on me and i was again there for the 4th time. Had an excellent time as always. The highlight of the trip was at 3.00am, i almost jumped out of my bed, just below our tent 3 lions were making a kill on a buffalo, the roars went on for an hour and i was frozen in bed thinking there were outside my tent.Once in a life time experience.Read my earlier reviews about this beautiful camp.

The Fig Tree was an amazing place, the place is beautiful and you get the total African experience. The staff is absolutely nice and they answer every question about nature, animals and Kenya in general. The rooms are very clean ans the staff is very honest. The food is so good! I would definately recommend the Fig Tree to all the people that enjoy adventure (make sure to book an air balloon ride!).
I loved it so much I can`t wait to go back.
This place was amazing! After flying into a gravel landing strip, jeeps awaited us to take us on our first safari and then on to the Fig Tree Camp. We were greeted with refreshments and our luggage was carried to our beautiful tents. The tents were beyond incredible and the bedding so comfortable and beautiful! During the night we could hear Hippos coming down the river right outside our tent.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the food is 5 star.
The only drawback is to make sure your tents are zipped so the monkeys can't get in (they are diffcult to get back out).
